I was really bad before HRT. Especially lower back and hips. The worst bit was the stiffness after I'd been sitting - I felt like a right old woman and I wasn't even mid forties. It has improved a lot since HRT but I'm not ache free yet. I was going to follow up with GP this summer but COVID put paid to that. It's on my list next chance... I'll definately look at getting bloods down for vit deficiencies though - good tip!

@Savemyusername

I am late 50s and I ached for years when I reached 50, especially in my lower back and I was living on painkillers. Weirdly I don’t ache at all any more. It stopped about a year ago and I have no idea why.
That's my experience too,
Imissmoominmama · 06/10/2020 22:48

I ache in almost every joint. I have osteoarthritis and have already had one joint replacement (the only joint which no longer hurts!). I’m quite fit, and not fat (about 7lbs overweight), but the pain is something I have to live with. I’m 54 and still having fairly regular periods.

Happydaysforever123 · 06/10/2020 22:49

@Strugglingtodomybest your hips really shouldn't ache after pilates. Some exercises from a good physio may be better.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 06/10/2020 22:53

I ache. I'm 49. It's my knees mostly. I work in a nursery so am on my feet all day and often bending down and sitting on the floor. I'm also overweight and going through the menopause.

Floralnomad · 06/10/2020 22:56

I’m almost mid 50s , fairly fit ( limited by health issues) , not overweight and I don’t ache . My sister is a year older and menopausal and apparently she aches a lot .

fruitpastille · 06/10/2020 22:56

I tend towards hypermobility which I guess is why my joints are not great. On the plus side I can do a great roundhouse kick Grin

yearinyearout · 06/10/2020 23:02

All the bloody time! I get out of bed and my hips, knees and back all ache. I'm not so bad once I get moving but I've had an ache in my one shoulder blade for months.

Sunsetboater · 06/10/2020 23:07

I'm 56, had full hysterectomy 8 years ago. Never managed to get on HRT despite asking about it several times... Apparently too late to start now. Aches and pains developing all over - especially my right hip and hands. I'm 5'3" and always been ideal weight although now can't seem to get below 10 stone. Would love to get to 9 and a half but it's a struggle. I try to keep active, resist the armchair and keep walking the hound!

fortunacookie · 06/10/2020 23:12

Yes mainly in my legs but I suffer with RLS so I put it down to that ...go to gym fairly regular , average weight but am achy a lot n periods regular still , I'm 48

BigChocFrenzy · 06/10/2020 23:20

I'm a gym rat and I don't ache
Normal BMI, age 64

Ilovelblue · 06/10/2020 23:24

I injured my knee last year and I can't bend it as well as I used to be able to do but it doesn't really ache.

If I do some strenuous gardening (digging out a new garden as a volunteer for a local charity) I certainly ache then but nothing that doesn't go away after a couple of days.

PyongyangKipperbang · 06/10/2020 23:26

All over but I have a massive Vit D and B deficiency, am currently on a loading dose of both as I was so low as to barely register. Maybe worth getting a blood test just in case.

gindinner · 06/10/2020 23:28

I exercise a lot, and always have a slight niggle. My right knee has had an on and off twinge for about a week. Weight training helps it a bit. I know I have unbalanced glutes and have weakness on that side. My left shoulder is aching a bit, and my left arm is slightly weaker than my right arm. I think it's the way I stand, and my natural gait. Yoga helps, and I'm thinking of trying some joint mobility exercises.

jessstan1 · 06/10/2020 23:29

I'm seventy and have only ached if I've injured myself in some way.

IncandescentSilver · 06/10/2020 23:30

Not really at all. In some ways I feel better than ever (muscles very strong and efficient) and in other ways worse (cartilage worn away in places leading to osteoarthritis, which, strangely, causes me no pain). I run nearly every day and cycling usually too, and keep my weight strictly no more than before, 8 1/2 stones.

I'd say I'm still at my peak, mind you I come from a slow ageing family and many relatives lived til well into their nineties! I'm hoping to outdo that and take down some age group records when I get old enough.

vodkaredbullgirl · 06/10/2020 23:31

Im 51 and ache all over, especially in the morning. Even after a night shift i ache. Im not over weight and im menopausal, thinking of getting some Vit D.

PyongyangKipperbang · 06/10/2020 23:31

Oh and my left shoulder is still massively painful after I spent three years with a frozen shoulder. It is still a lot weaker than my right and gets very painful in any position that isnt hanging straight down.

shinynewapple2020 · 06/10/2020 23:31

Mid 50s, slightly overweight and I am increasingly finding aches and pains in various parts of my body . I'm not particularly fit .

Interesting what people have mentioned about vitamin d. I bought some a couple of months back after reading of the beneficial impact on Covid , but keep forgetting to take it .

Dobbyismyfavourite · 06/10/2020 23:41

@fartooskinny you have just described my MIL but she is in her 80's.

thriftyhen · 06/10/2020 23:44

56 and very active. I don't ache. Never thought people ached unless they had an injury.

Anordinarymum · 06/10/2020 23:49

I am 65. I exercise, and I walk my dogs but I ache sometimes, and when I do it is awful.
It is always my hip and or my knee. When it gets bad and I can't sleep I use Voltarol but I don't like to rely on it.

I have had a scan and my doctor says I have osteo arthritis in my hip.

I have upped the exercise and it seems to have done the trick.

I never let aches get me down. My son says you can reverse arthritis with exercise and diet and I'm looking into this.

Guineapigbridge · 06/10/2020 23:56

Do you run/jog? I'm convinced it's not actually good for you after 50 due to the stress it puts on your joints.

bumblingbovine49 · 07/10/2020 00:14

I ache all the time but if I am honest that has been true all my life . I am definitely worse if my vit d levels are low but aching muscles and a deep fatigue is something that has been with me all my life, sometimes worse than others and I have periods where it gets better for a while. Regular exercise makes me feel more energetic but makes the aches worse.

IdblowJonSnow · 07/10/2020 00:26

I'm mid 40s and very achey. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and everything hurts. It's like my body is 200 years old.
