Cars for short people?

Looking for advice.. I’ve just started driving lessons and I’m wanting to get my own car to practice in- trouble is, I am 4’11 and every single car I’ve sat in hasn’t been right! Even with the seat fully forward I’m getting cramp in my legs from having to stretch and tip toe the pedals, not to mention that I can’t see the bonnet or a clear view of the road. I’ve tried cushions, but that seems to take me further away from the pedals and I can’t help feeling so uncomfortable. Any game changing cars for short people out there?

@twointhemorning, the Zafira has a sensor that tells me when I'm too close, to any thing, be it car, person or fly. It's bloody annoying for 95% of the time.

Iamnotminterested · 06/10/2020 20:02

*anything

Silvermockingbird · 06/10/2020 20:04

Tomhardy It’s crazy isn’t it! I often think what’s even the point in doing makeup or anything because 90% of people only see the top of my head.. at least my double chin rarely gets noticed. I’d love to glide around with super tall legs instead of scurrying about getting mistaken for a year 5 when I pick my kids up from school Grin

Agree with CottonSock, both of mine are automatic.

Silvermockingbird · 06/10/2020 20:05

jcyclops and moist you are terrible people and I am deeply offended.

5 foot 2 here and I have a Peugeot 3008.

The key is to get a car where you can raise the seat as high as you like and Have it go forward.

The Peugeot also has a front camera which I find great when parking as you can see over and beyond the bonnet that way.

TroysMammy · 06/10/2020 20:08

I'm 3/4inch taller than you OP and I drive a chevrolet matiz.

Eviebeans · 06/10/2020 20:13

I have a suzuki alto but loved my old hyundai amica - slightly higher driving position

iMatter · 06/10/2020 20:15

Automatic without a doubt

I'm 5'2" and can drive pretty much anything that's automatic

Eviebeans · 06/10/2020 20:18

Also automatic

Iamnotminterested · 06/10/2020 20:19

Automatic For the People (especially shorter drivers).

Toyota iq
Fiat 500

Fiat 500L has three seats in the back. Mine has adjustment for seat position, seat height, steering wheel position, steering wheel height and electric lumbar support (a built in cushion!).

weebarra · 06/10/2020 21:58

I am the same height as you OP, with similarly short legs. I drive a manual golf and also DH's automatic Ford Galaxy. They are both fine.

tywysoges · 06/10/2020 22:03

Another Mini driver here Grin - I’m 5’4 but short of leg, no trouble seeing over the dash/bonnet (though I do have my seat on the highest possible position) but need to put the seat all the way to the front. Previous car was a Fiat Panda, best seating position ever. The Panda was a 4 seater but the mini (5 door mini one) is a 5 seater. DH had a Kia Picanto which I hated driving, too low, felt like driving the Flintstones car, now has a Dacia thing that is actually fine and fairly spacious too.

OnlyLittleMissOrganised · 06/10/2020 22:11

I'm 4ft9 and drive a t cross. I feel your pain I had to sit in so many cars to find a good one. My husbands Nissan micra is also good..its a 15 plate so not sure about the newer models.

Newnamenewopenme · 06/10/2020 22:13

@Tomhardyshadabath

“Also, it never occurred to me that people can see the end of the bonnet”

Me neither! I see the top bit where the wipers are but that’s it! I just assumed everyone just knew how long their cars are, not that they can actually see the end.

MintTpls · 06/10/2020 22:23

Japanese cars like Toyota have "up" function as well as "forward" for driver seats.
I'm 5ft1 and Toyota is great for me
