To not really fully understand moderate risk

I’m new ish to mental health services and I’ve received a letter from my recent psychiatrist appointment saying I’m of moderate risk to myself. I don’t really understand as in mind someone is either low risk or at a significant risk to themselves.

It means he/she thinks if life is smooth, you'll be OK but something unexpected might throw you off balance. Do you think the assessment is correct? If so, protect yourself and try to keep life on an even keel.

I do hope you've been offered some help.

It basically means that you may have had suicidal thoughts or made an attempt in the past, but you don’t have intent of acting on them. However you may be vulnerable to deterioration. The Royal College of Emergency Medicine checklist is here so you can see how they make assessments. Your psychiatrist or community mental health team should be able to answer any questions

Hope things go well for you and your health improves
