My cat has brought in a rat - it’s hiding under the fridge. I am absolutely phobic and I have moved the fridge out - there are droppings 😱😱

I am shut in the front room with a broom and the cat is sat staring at the fridge (so is definitely there).

WTF do I do?! 😰😰

Do you have a door going to the outside from the kitchen ? You will need to grab the cat, get the back door wide open and run back to the front room. Once cat is gone the rat will most likely get back outside.

MadameBee · 04/10/2020 22:28

The kitchen door is wide open but no internal kitchen door, cat is sat staring at the fridge 😱😱

Open the back door and make as much noise as you can. Do you have any neighbours with a terrier?

Perfect!
RonaRossi · 04/10/2020 22:37

I’d leave the car shut in the kitchen and let him sort it.

We had similar before and went to bed with the cat firmly perched in front of the washing machine...came down in the morning to a dead mouse.

Ask a neighbour! Just do it - you'll be glad you got it sorted sooner rather than later. It's the kind of thing it's ok to knock randomly about. Just make sure there is a light on.

Thelnebriati · 04/10/2020 22:47

Don't try to catch the rat yourself, they move like greased lightning and will be aggressive if cornered. Open the kitchen door, pull the fridge out and make a racket with the broom behind the fridge, if you are lucky it will run out. You'll need to stand to one side to let it get past you.

PrincessandthePeach · 04/10/2020 22:50

Sorry I'm no help, but I think I'd have to set the place alight. I live alone and would be far too scared to get it out myself.

This is what I would do as well. I have had rats in my house. My cat brought two in and took them up to the bathroom. They scream like nothing you have ever heard in your life !

One of them disappeared never to be seen again, and the other one - disappeared but came back out and he killed it.

I must be a weirdo because I do not mins them at all although I am not keen on them coming in the house. I would not touch it but would not intentionally harm it either.

toomanyplants · 04/10/2020 22:57

Open back door wide
Close all other doors
Keep puss with you
Move fridge out
Promise it will run, either out or cat will nab it

BreatheAndFocus · 04/10/2020 23:02

The poor rat is desperate to get outside! Help it by moving your cat upstairs (shut it in the bathroom?) Then make a noise near the fridge and the rat will run out from under the fridge and out the open door.

MadameBee · 04/10/2020 23:05

I have removed the cat, battered the fridge and left the door wide open

Sorry OP for the situation but 😂😂😂 @CitizenFame! Has the rat managed to get out yet, OP?

Anordinarymum · 04/10/2020 23:34

We are waiting OP.. Has it gone yet ?

catnoir1 · 04/10/2020 23:54

Did you manage to get the rat out?

Are next door aware they have rats?

cloudylemonade13 · 05/10/2020 00:01

@MadameBee

I think next door has an infestation 😰😰
If there's an infestation let the Council know and they might intervene - our local authority generally won't do anything if it's mice (without charging you anyway) but if it's rats they're seen as more a public health issue
