Is there genuinely ANYONE who could afford to get a couple of weeks shopping into the house, who hasn't?

And if so, WHY?

Are you hard of thinking, or just trying to pick a fight?

Just a fun debate but I see you've reached a dead end. My apologies 😜

VinylDetective · 05/10/2020 17:41

@Bwlch

I'd really like to know where this magic area is where you are that didn't have empty shelves and plenty of delivery slots.

It wasn't that magic. There were no delivery slots at all.

It’s a damn sight more magical than where we live.
Barney60 · 05/10/2020 17:41

i can afford but havnt. Cant see point tbh, i have enough home cooked food in freezer if need be. Also bread. So bits i will pick up as required.

toilet · 05/10/2020 17:41

@CrunchyNutNC and you're not? You can ignore my posts you know particularly if you have nothing to add.

Janevaljane · 05/10/2020 17:42

Lots of funny posts on that old Brexit preppers thread, bearing in mind what people are saying on here

I think a woman in Tesco earlier just may have been prepping..... I had noticed the 25p spaghetti shelf was empty and then found it was because a lady had emptied the entire thing into her trolley. I spotted her as she was doing the same thing with the 15p bars of soap!

Was a classic

Ashdownstar · 05/10/2020 17:42

@toilet just because people are on the preppers board does not mean that they all think the same way.
Some have been prepping for years, some for months, and others have just started, and have gone looking for a bit of advice.
I learnt a lot about the JIT system on there, and how fragile it is when there's any dusruption, as so very well evidenced in the supermarkets in March.

CrunchyNutNC · 05/10/2020 17:44

@Bwlch

There isn’t. There was no meat whatsoever the week after lockdown. Or pasta or rice and the tinned food aisles were bare too.

I think it must have been regional because I don't remember having a problem getting anything I needed, even flour.

There were threads on MN at the time where it was posited that using flour to make playdough was a criminal waste of a scarce resource.

I'm not the one hunting down inconsistencies between a thread about prepping and other threads on a prepping board.

Why would you care what was on a prepping board if it wasn't your thing Confused

Janevaljane · 05/10/2020 17:46

I don't remember struggling to get food at all, apart from flour and yeast. We all ate well during lockdown.

Bit of both then Hmm

It’s a damn sight more magical than where we live.

Surely there must have been some vegan stuff left?

Just reminding people that there were many Brexit prep threads, as certain posters seemed to have forgotten and were taking the piss.

sherbetlemony · 05/10/2020 17:49

I could afford to but I haven't otherwise I become a part of the problem.

I can afford to buy goods if the prices increase as well so I'm not as anxious as I figure stuff will be available somewhere! Also, we eat pretty much anything so if some things run out we'll be ok.

toilet · 05/10/2020 17:49

I never said they did @Ashdownstar.

My point is very much the fact lots of "preppers" on this thread have blamed "panic buyers" for the shortages although there is clearly a fine line between the two, don't you think? Plus some preppers on this thread have called non preppers selfish for not prepping & accused them of endangering others. It's nonsense!
Prep if you want but don't lecture others who chose not too & pretend to be morally superior when it's clear some preppers are no different to panic buyers.

Bwlch · 05/10/2020 17:51

Also, we eat pretty much anything so if some things run out we'll be ok.

My husband would probably eat playdough if I put it in front of him.

toilet · 05/10/2020 17:53

Why can't you answer my points instead of deflecting? *

Why would you care what was on a prepping board if it wasn't your thing*

This is a thread about prepping, I have never prepped. Why would I not look at a board dedicated to prepping to learn more? You say hunting down inconsistencies, I say looking on a thread for 5 mins. Regardless there is clearly inconsistencies on this thread!

Fbearsmum · 05/10/2020 17:54

I have started to stockpile 2 things, milkshake straws for my ds, he's autistic and they are his main drink and tea bags for me, I'm caffeine free and my local polish shop sells the best variety of fruit teas

becauseIcare · 05/10/2020 17:55

I could but will not out of principle

lyralalala · 05/10/2020 17:56

Surely the fact that some on the prepper board are not actually preppers, but may think they are, is no more difficult to understand than the fact there are people on the feminist board who are not feminists, despite thinking they are?

FelicisNox · 05/10/2020 17:57

Define hoarding: I don't hoard as such but I do have a freezer full of frozen veg, pizza and sausages but that's normal for me at this time of year Covid or not.

There's no need to hoard. I can't abide that sort of selfishness. Look what happened earlier in the year.....

toilet · 05/10/2020 17:57

@CrunchyNutNC @Yesthesearemymonkeys what would you say @Fbearsmum is doing?

sabbii · 05/10/2020 18:02

There is never any need for it. I could probably afford to bulk buy up to a point but you have to store it without it going to waste. Not like the videos you see of stockpile floor to ceiling. These days the supermarkets are pretty well stocked.

toilet · 05/10/2020 18:04

@lyralalala well there are constant debates about what a feminist is eg some are pro stripping others aren't.

Surely the logical conclusion is that plenty of so called preppers are no different to panic buyers since there seems to be arbitrary rules that are very much defined by the individual.

However it's a bit hypocritical to blame all those "other" awful panic buyers for food shortages & for those who don't prep of endangering others?

Nearly47 · 05/10/2020 18:07

I haven't. But now you put the idea in my head I might get some tins and frozen stuff. In case I have to self isolate. But I don't think we are going to have full lockdown as before. And even then shops stayed open. So there isn't need to stockpile.

lyralalala · 05/10/2020 18:10

Anyone who panic buys is not a prepper. No matter what they call themselves. They are a panic buyer.
