How much water / liquid should you be drinking in a day ? As in litres or mls? For a female adult ?

OP posts:
VeganVeal · 04/10/2020 17:12

6-8 litres

Starsaboveus · 04/10/2020 17:17

Litres 😱

OP posts:
Mylittlesandwich · 04/10/2020 17:19

I think it's 6-8 pints.

JagerPlease · 04/10/2020 17:20

It's 6-8 glasses, or 2-3 litres

Orangecake123 · 04/10/2020 17:20

6-8 liters is way too much water. Maybe 2-3 at the most.

Musicaltheatremum · 04/10/2020 17:21

No that's far too much. Think it's wrong units About 2 litres of liquid is needed but there is liquid in food and all coffee and tea counts. I have about 6 cups of tea(a lot us decaf) a day and one glass of water and I'm fine.

MatildaTheCat · 04/10/2020 17:21

Enough to quench your thirst.

Mylittlesandwich · 04/10/2020 17:22

Or maybe 6-8 glasses but that's pretty vague.

imarocketman50 · 04/10/2020 17:22

I drink at least 2 litres almost every day but sometimes as much as 4 litres

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 04/10/2020 17:24

I try to have 3 litres of water plus copious amounts of tea/coffee.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 04/10/2020 17:26

Two litres is the usual suggestion, which (I think) includes tea and coffee, but not alcohol. I usually have about 6-8 cups of coffee (decaf after a certain time) plus maybe a litre of squash (sugar free).

HyaluronicHippo · 04/10/2020 17:28

2 litres a day.

Jubaju · 04/10/2020 18:48

Google is really good for these types of questions

Hmm

Maybe the OP doesn't want a 2 line answer, but is interested in a discussion without browsing through tens of studies online?

Google is really good though, it does bring you to that very forum when you ask a whole range of questions 😂

SimonJT · 04/10/2020 18:56

One litre per 25kg of body weight on an average day.

It really fucks me off when people say stupid shit like this.

Can't speak for OP of course, but sometimes when I want to know something, I don't want to ask Google - I want to ask MN (for a variety of reasons not least common sense Wink) If you disagree with that approach, fair enough but don't you think it makes you look a bit of a dick basically using your time to answer someone's question posted on MN with the reply "don't ask questions on MN" Hmm

What was I saying about common sense Wink

I drink at least 2 litres a day, not including lots of tea.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 04/10/2020 19:04

Depends on your weight as well as other factors. Whenever I see the "I make sure to drink 2 litres" said as if it's something of an achievement I am surprised because if I drink 2 litres, I will be dizzy. I always drunk between 3-4, not counting beer😁, even when I was slim.

Happyheartlovelife · 04/10/2020 19:04

I have a condition which makes me drink tons of water

But 2 litres a day is a good figure.

Gobbycop · 04/10/2020 19:05

6 to 8 litres lol.

If all you want to do is drink water and piss all day then yeah, that kind of amount.

EinsteinaGogo · 04/10/2020 19:06

@VeganVeal

6-8 litres
Blimey!

I struggle on 2 litres plus.. how do you manage?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 04/10/2020 19:12

Tbf to Veal, in a summer I did easily 6 litres too because i sweat like a freaking barn door in anything above 22 degrees🙄

However, too much water isn't healthy too so I had to start watching that.

WilsonMilson · 04/10/2020 19:13

@VeganVeal that amount of water is actually unhealthy and can lead to toxic over hydration where salts and electrolytes become too diluted.
2-3 litres is optimum.

There is an illness called diabetes insipidus.

Some people with DI drink up to 10 litres a day.

I am one who has this condition. Some people need more water than the normal person.

WilsonMilson · 05/10/2020 19:42

@Happyheartlovelife interesting, I didn’t know that.
Sounds exhausting to have to drink that much, aren’t you forever in the loo?

Happyheartlovelife · 05/10/2020 20:07

@WilsonMilson

Yes. That’s another sign. Is too diluted urine.

The test for it is to not drink for I think 12 hours. Due to the illness. We get EXTREME thirst. By extreme I mean we’ve got to be locked in a room. Nurses have found patients having the test to drink toilet water. Fish tank water.

It’s a very interesting Illness. Although I didn’t go to that extreme. Before diagnosis I was drinking 5-6 litres a day easily. Probably up to 8 on a bad day. We get given vasopressin.

I drink 3-4 litres now. So much better than I was!

You should google it. It’s really interesting.
