To think we are heading for a full 2 week national half term lockdown

DS’s school ramping up the preparation to teach on MS teams & making sure they can all use it & have the tech in place.

Teachers indicating that it’s going to be half term plus another couple of weeks after.

Given the rising numbers, it’s seems more likely that’s what’s coming - and maybe even a full lockdown this time & not the half arsed one we had before.

Aibu? I am worried as my kids really hated it last time but with so many new cases, it just seems the likely path

People really don’t understand what martial law is do they

ListeningQuietly · 04/10/2020 16:37

Supermarkets will stay open
Schools will stay open
Colleges will stay open
Universities will stay open
DIY shops will stay open
Restaurants and takeaways will stay open
Garden centres will stay open
Hospitals and doctors will stay open
Gyms and exercise places will stay open

because to close them will make people ill in other ways

@Mariola321

I think it maybe because more ethnic in north and is comm9n to have three generation in one house. I see much less social distancing when I in Birmingham last week.
More ethnic in the north?! You’ve not spent much time in London, have you?

If it is more ethnic in the north, why are people in Kent whining about “being over-run with migrants” then?

Vast swathes of Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cumbria and Northumberland are total Whitey McWhiteface territory and not even slightly “ethnic”.

I'm sceptical about what your friend says DeeDee. For the simple reason that I'm quite a senior civil servant and we don't tend to share info not in the public domain because;
We will have signed the official secrets act,
Releasing info is a disciplinary offence and;
You can't trust the people you tell not to put it on MN or FB Wink

ImSleepingBeauty · 04/10/2020 16:41

@SoUtterlyGroundDown not in my experience.

Pikachubaby · 04/10/2020 16:43

Schools don’t have any advanced knowledge.

My DP is at secondary school, senior management team, and they only find out about new rules, lockdowns etc via the media, just like the rest of the population.

They are not briefed in advance.

Flatwhite32 · 04/10/2020 16:45

I'm a teacher and schools haven't heard of this at all. Anyone who says we have is speaking rubbish.

midnightstar66 · 04/10/2020 16:45

Well yes half term does vary but only normally by a week or so generally

Not if you are including Scotland as National. Some schools break up as soon as this Friday

Mintychoc1 · 04/10/2020 16:47

I’ve reported this thread and asked if it can be moved to the coronavirus topic

Janevaljane · 04/10/2020 16:47

I think people in the SW will rebel. Depending on the strictness of lockdown.

DioneTheDiabolist · 04/10/2020 16:48

@MadameBlobby, I'm afraid the alarming rise in the rates of CV19 in NI are really much higher than earlier in the year when we had very low numbers. The higher numbers are not just down to increased testing.

How will they show this rebellion?!
midnightstar66 · 04/10/2020 16:49

I work in a school and have heard rumours - my sister works in the next LA area and she (and all staff) have received an email from the LA detailing the possibility of a national circuit breaker lockdown and what that means for their specific area (how they plan to implement teaching if it happens and what's expected of staff)

Oh no, that’s a shame x

Janevaljane · 04/10/2020 16:50

I want a mammogram. I want my PIL to have his cancer check up. There's barely any cases here and haven't been throughout. I'll be livid if we have a national lockdown.

Janevaljane · 04/10/2020 16:51

How will they show this rebellion?!

No idea! Probably a cross tut and a letter to the MP. We are fairly civilised down here.

TacosTuesday · 04/10/2020 16:53

I think you're BU based on current figures, e.g R rate (yesterday) tentatively reported as reducing (imperial college data report I believe). My Covid app pinged me today to say 'rates are reducing but we still need to take care' or similar wording. It's also hard to see what the benefit would be of 'full lockdown' for 2 weeks. Not seen any countries doing this/results? It's not really long enough to do anything much to covid but is pretty disruptive to workers/the economy/health system - happy to stand corrected if there's a precedent for this in another country and it's worked.
IMO for what it's worth we're (the public)currently being managed by media and government messaging and tone to influence our behaviour at this stage- I'm not against this at all, I think the medical officer speech a couple of weeks ago was the equivalent of being warned by your head teacher to change your ways or you'll be suspended! And Boris is doing the same today with somber talk of 'bumpy rides' etc. The government need (most/enough) of us to pay attention, not be complacent and be careful. We'd all like relaxation of rules at Christmas and that's the carrot.

MaskingForIt · 04/10/2020 16:55

Is this the same SW which, during the first lockdown were building their own road blocks, slashing the tyres of campervans and erecting “tourists go home” signs? Figures.

ListeningQuietly · 04/10/2020 16:58

Northern Ireland has a problem ....
On this page the history of the cases and average since July is easy to see
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51768274

I do not trust any of the Apps because they are voluntary and skewed
the only true data set is the weekly ONS

Grin Fair enough-I’m sure the government will be able to withstand such a rebellion.
myrtilles · 04/10/2020 16:59

All they need to do is suggest that schools that only have a one week half term teach the week after half term remotely. Having two weeks away from physical school but not a lockdown would stop the spread of all sorts off winter bugs not just covid. It would mean people could enjoy half term as planned and then having the next week at home would stop any illness picked up at half term spreading. I am certainly hoping they don’t do any further national lockdowns. The numbers are only high in university cities and they should just focus on containing those outbreaks so they don’t reach the older population

AmyandPhilipfan · 04/10/2020 17:00

If they’re going to do this then I think they should give a bit of warning. I’m in a local lockdown area but local museums etc are tentatively arranging kids’ events for half term (in line with restrictions) and after they were all shut for months earlier this year I think it will be really cruel if they’re suddenly told ‘no events allowed - shut for 2 weeks’ and have to cancel everything and arrange refunds etc.

hellotoday27 · 04/10/2020 17:01

I think a 2 week half term would be a good idea to get a break in infection rates. I'd rather do a 2 week half term then let the rates go wild and end up with a longer lockdown.

I can see this happening. It will be interesting to see what impact it has on the infection rates.

Hmm
doing WHAT exactly ?
Not going on holiday
Not going to the cinema
Not going to theme parks and museums and galleries
and millions of parents have no income
