To tell him he’s been rumbled on his age lie?

About 11 years ago I was dating someone; not for long, but he got really intense. Messaging all day long, started talking about how I might be the one after a couple of dates... I had to put a stop to it as it was all too much.

I got a message on a dating site yesterday from a strangely familiar man and thought ‘He really looks like X’. Then I looked closer and read the profile info and realised it was X. He obviously doesn’t remember me. I was half-offended, but really just laughed at the irony of me being unrecognisable despite apparently having been ‘the one’ after three dates. Maybe I didn’t have quite the impact he’d suggested Grin

I was just going to block him - until I spotted his profile claims he is 36. Which is very odd, considering he was 37 when we dated! I’m now really tempted to reply saying ‘You’ve obviously forgotten we’ve met before - but it’s not that surprising, given you’ve forgotten 12 years of your life!’ or similar.

I know it’s petty, but part of me thinks it would serve him right for lying 🤥 to other women on there (and for forgetting me, obvs)!

He'd probably just block you straight away.

Isn't it normal for people to lie about their ages on dating profiles?

Aquamarine1029 · 04/10/2020 09:19

Don't. Block and move on.

SunbathingDragon · 04/10/2020 09:19

He probably wasn’t 37 when he dated you either.

37 was believable then though.

How does that work, do people just expect the relationship to be short term, maybe mere hook ups, so their lie will never be rumbled? Or do they think they can do a grand reveal on wedding night & lust will brush the issue under carpet.

He's done it to fit in with the younger age bracket on the site. These men generally think that they're owed younger women and it's irrelevant that they are lying to get one. They all think that they are younger in appearance/attitude/energy levels and women are unfair to reject them based on their actual age.

Question him on it OP serves him right. See if he changes his age or blocks you 😂
