Complain about venue with a kids party of 12 kids?

Would you? Am I just being a kill joy? I'm at a climbing wall place with my kids, there's a birthday party booking here with 12 kids (plus parents). The venue is still within its reduced "COVID" numbers for this time slot, but all 12 kids plus their parents have all finished the climbing and gone into the private "party" room for the food etc - there's over 20 people crammed in there together. It just feels insane?! Surely they should be only taking party bookings of less than 6?!

It’s all so bizarre; my son went to a party last week And I couldn’t stay as the venue only allowed 6 (private soft play hire) which makes sense as that’s the rules. However; I’ve booked to go to that soft play next week and per session it’s got 15 available tickets for the same time slot; so all my other friends have booked those tickets to go at the same time with their kids! Apparently not knowing the other 13 people is ok?!!!

ballsdeep · 03/10/2020 19:25

Are the parents SD? The kids are probably all together in school anyway

baubled · 03/10/2020 19:27

@Scweltish 🤣🤣

GlummyMcGlummerson · 03/10/2020 19:27

I wouldn't if I were you as if they get a say a £10k fine it may be that you kiss goodbye to the venue. How would you feel if that happened?

CovidHalloween · 03/10/2020 19:31

Children’s party or not, they are breaking the law and it’s not covid19 safe.

BloggersBlog · 03/10/2020 19:36

Still report, doesnt matter that it is after the event. The venue will hopefully get a visit and not do it again. Doing nothing isnt the answer

So clearly not. And the parents aren’t in school everyday with the kids and the other parents, are they?

Elsewyre · 03/10/2020 19:38

I really dont understand why people think they can just wait this out?

Flu for instance a never going away

And at the other end of the spectrum smallpox it took from 1850 to 1973 to vaccinate that out and that couldn't live in anything but humans.

All that's going to happen is we all sit and wait untill we finally accept that this virus is here and will be here forever it's just a part of earth's ecosystem now

UntamedWisteria · 03/10/2020 19:41

I would have had a quiet word with the venue.

Perhaps they'll think again before allowing it.

underneaththeash · 03/10/2020 19:41

I'd worry that they are not being COVID - business complaint in other areas too.

Preparedtobetoldimwrong · 03/10/2020 19:49

Would I think it was wrong? Yes
Would I report it? No, but I wouldn’t go back and I wouldn’t recommend it to others. Covid is basically a Health and Safety issue, which should be top priority in a place like that.

Busybrain2020 · 03/10/2020 20:02

I’d definitely report it.

sherbetlemony · 03/10/2020 20:08

They're probably all in the same bubble together. The venue shouldn't have squashed them all into one room though. Apart from that I can't see how it's different from other kids all being there separately if they're below their quota of kids allowed anyway.

Don't report it, the business may feel like they don't have much choice if it's between taking a few bookings or closing down completely.

There’s no way 12 kids and at least 12 adults, more if both parents were in attendance, are all in each other’s bubble.

Twofurrycatsagain · 03/10/2020 23:15

No I wouldn't report it.
I may decide not to attend that venue again as a personal decision but I wouldn't be choosing to shaft a local business based on the random nonsense from our government and their advisors.

QuentinInQuarantino · 04/10/2020 12:57

I wouldn't report it, that is so nasty. How can anyone see a child (who spends far longer at school with more people) celebrating a party and their mind go straight to "report." What have we become.

MushyMushi · 04/10/2020 13:23

It doesn’t matter if they’re in the same bubble or not, it’s still unlawful for the venue to allow the party to take place.

I’ve had to cancel all of my group bookings and it annoys me that other people think the rules don’t apply to them! People still keep calling us trying to book parties of 10+ and seem annoyed when they’re told no.

Letsgetgoing123 · 04/10/2020 13:29

@Preparedtobetoldimwrong

Agree with you.

People tend to return to places they feel safe, so this venue may struggle longer term.

Topseyt · 04/10/2020 13:36

@LadyofTheManners

Can we have a new MN emoji of a covid Stasi yellow best please? Seriously it's a kids party. They'll be at school in a class with 30 of them every day
I totally agree with that.

Who the hell reports a children's party? They can be in massive bubbles at school with barely a nod to social distancing, in some cases even more than 30. What is the difference unless you just want to be pedantic about meaningless and arbitrary rules?

SmudgeButt · 04/10/2020 13:49

If weddings can only be 15 people max why should a birthday party be allowed more. I would have thought it illegal. I did hear of one venue that has had the police there more than once for allowing too large of events.

Catlover77 · 04/10/2020 14:15

@Busybrain2020

Kids climbing party is not the issue and not a problem - it's all the adults squeezed into a little party room afterwards surely? And putting staff at risk having to serve food/play games/pour juice or whatever too?

My local soft play has kids parties but adults have to take turns to drop off and pick up their child, this is sensible. Over 20 people presumably not all from the same household, in a small room, not sensible.

This. I’m failing to see how some pps can just gloss over this?

I wouldn’t have reported during the party and ruined it for a 4 year old BUT I would make an official complaint after or leave a review raising concerns. They are putting profits before their staff and clients (and their clients teachers and grandparents etc) lives and that’s morally reprehensible. They have a way to stay open which would minimise risk as far as possible. And they’ve blatantly ignored the procedures in place.

HandfulofDust · 04/10/2020 15:46

@Elsewyre what a completely daft comment - even worse than most of the nonse posted about covid. Do you realise that there have been medical advances since small pox and vaccines can be developed much more quickly? It's more than possible there'll be a vaccine next year.

In any case thankfully you're not in charge of the country and don't decide the rules. 20 people including lots of adults from different households in a small rule (for no good reason!) is against the rules.

Shxx · 04/10/2020 16:07

Yes and throw ice cream at the kids too might as well properly ruin their day
