Complain about venue with a kids party of 12 kids?

Would you? Am I just being a kill joy? I'm at a climbing wall place with my kids, there's a birthday party booking here with 12 kids (plus parents). The venue is still within its reduced "COVID" numbers for this time slot, but all 12 kids plus their parents have all finished the climbing and gone into the private "party" room for the food etc - there's over 20 people crammed in there together. It just feels insane?! Surely they should be only taking party bookings of less than 6?!

I would ignore it, they're within their capacity for a timeslot, why does it matter that there is a group of 12 that know each other? I'm not sure I'd report anyone though unless I knew for a fact they'd tested positive for Covid or had symptoms and were ignoring the self isolation rules.

@LadyofTheManners

Can we have a new MN emoji of a covid Stasi yellow best please? Seriously it's a kids party. They'll be at school in a class with 30 of them every day
Comments like this don’t really help. If we all follow the guidelines (including businesses) hopefully we won’t end up back in a strict lockdown.

Ridiculing people for highlighting a potential issue makes it sound like you may be part of the problem?

MandosHatHair · 03/10/2020 17:46

Oh and also, I have seen parents be absolute dicks to the lovely staff at my local soft play about mask wearing, so I wouldn't be surprised if the staff in this case are just turning a blind eye to avoid confrontation. They didn't sign up to policing policies like this.

All the parents are in with them at school all day as well?

Being in a class of 30 every day is the reason to avoid unnecessary interactions, not encourage them.

ImSleepingBeauty · 03/10/2020 17:49

Our local soft play is still offering parties for 15 children and 15 adults in their ‘Covid Secure’ play centre. I could book one for tomorrow if I wanted.

Dancingwithdaftness · 03/10/2020 17:49

Oh for God's sake.

Letsgetgoing123 · 03/10/2020 17:52

@loulouljh

I really would NOT report it. It is not your business and could ruin theirs...
Businesses have a responsibility to their customers and staff to keep them as safe as possible. The organised activity may have had limited numbers, but being crammed into a small room eating sounds wrong doesn’t it? Especially if staff had to bring food and clear it away etc.

@Scweltish

I wouldn’t report and break up a kids birthday party, because I’m not a prick. They were literally all just playing together, and with a lot more kids/people outside of the room. What difference do you think it makes?
Totally agree

Wow but weddings are limited to 15 and funerals 20, feels weird doesn’t it?
Swishswish26 · 03/10/2020 17:54

My DD has an invite to a climbing wall party with more than 6 children. It’s classed as a sporting venue so it’s allowed.

AnnaBegins · 03/10/2020 17:54

Heavens sake. The company will have checked they're allowed. A friend's child's softplay party is going ahead this weekend, if the parents cancel they'll lose all the money but the venue have a covid secure risk assessment. Let the poor kids have a party.

raddledoldmisanthropist · 03/10/2020 17:56

They can often offer class bubble parties with more children so long as they are all from the same class at school.

Can they? Do you have a link, I've missed that one.

an we have a new MN emoji of a covid Stasi yellow best please?

Meh, reporting them to the local authority would be a bit Stasi-like but speaking to the manager and politely pointing out that the revenue from 20 people is not worth a 10k fine is perfectly reasonable.

Nobody is breaking up the party.

ImSleepingBeauty · 03/10/2020 17:56

@Letsgetgoing123 yes it’s a bit fucked up isn’t it.

This ^^

This!

Jesus some of you are rotten. My dc party has just been cancelled but if it was allowed to go a head we would have.

The government have done a wonderful job of turning people against each other!

You are aware that more people have died of pneumonia and flu this week than Covid?

No just the party dementor eyeballing happy kids wanting to get their arse involved in other people’s business
raddledoldmisanthropist · 03/10/2020 18:00

It’s classed as a sporting venue so it’s allowed.

You can't just be classed as a sporting venue and do what the fuck you like. Only important stuff like shooting and fox hunting can do that.

CALL THE POLICE

At this point I can't work out who annoys me more- this lot or the nutters who think it's all a conspiracy by the lizard people.

EvilPea · 03/10/2020 18:00

Common sense would say it’s ok from the same class bubble

However that is not the rules.

IwishIwasyoda · 03/10/2020 18:03

You got nothing else to do OP? Seriously if the participants are OK with it why is it your business

Tomatoandbasil · 03/10/2020 18:04

It would be lovely if you knew which school and could let them know so that these parents don’t go whining if that bubble ends up closed....

Definitely complain. It’s against the law and it’s idiots like this who will prolong the misery for the rest of us.

You should just say at home then and dont leave the house... honestly it’s for your own safety.
LadyofTheManners · 03/10/2020 18:10

Can I also point out that when these places are reported and fined, after months of no income due to lockdown and restrictions, where do you propose to take your children for fun when they go under?
So many businesses, kids clubs, pubs, restaurants, party places, even zoos are in danger of ceasing to exist. Even London nightclubs are saying if this continues they will disappear.
When everything bar Whetherspoons and Asda are gone, then what? We will be in a permanent state of lockdown, work, school and no fun.

It sucks.
