Complain about venue with a kids party of 12 kids?

Would you? Am I just being a kill joy? I'm at a climbing wall place with my kids, there's a birthday party booking here with 12 kids (plus parents). The venue is still within its reduced "COVID" numbers for this time slot, but all 12 kids plus their parents have all finished the climbing and gone into the private "party" room for the food etc - there's over 20 people crammed in there together. It just feels insane?! Surely they should be only taking party bookings of less than 6?!

Yea they should only have bookings of less than 6 in one group in total

movingonup20 · 03/10/2020 16:56

It's wrong but I can have sympathy for the venue, they need revenue

ellentree · 03/10/2020 16:57

Yes I'd complain - I think they could get away with the session as it's a children's activity and being managed but not the party room.

CakeGirl2020 · 03/10/2020 16:58

I don’t think your being a killjoy

Any responsible business won’t be accepting bookings of more than 6 ( assuming your in England, I’ve no idea what Scotland & wales are doing in terms of rules)

If a business can’t stick to the rule of 6 with booking, it makes me wonder what other measures they aren’t following.

SleepingStandingUp · 03/10/2020 16:59

I think it's worth reporting op. It's not like you're barfing into the part screening stay away stay away

bestbefore · 03/10/2020 17:00

Wonder if the the climbing activity is ok as kids activities seem to be exempt from the group of 6 thing (eg dance class/ beavers etc) but the party room thing sounds incorrect for sure...

Aurorie11 · 03/10/2020 17:00

I’d complain it’s my DD birthday next week and she’s not having a party for the first time. Why do some people think they are exempt from the rules?

HandfulofDust · 03/10/2020 17:07

Why on earth did all the parents cram in there? If the kids are all in a class at school together then doing a sporting event might kit be the end of the world (although probably not allowed) but the parents all crowding into a small room is ridiculous!

Letsgetgoing123 · 03/10/2020 17:15

I’ve started to think that businesses being “covid secure “ is a meaningless term, just to allow them to keep operating and make people feel safe.

Surely they should have banned parents from the party room at least?

Lovelydovey · 03/10/2020 17:16

We cancelled DS party in the end, but we were offered a package with 10 children doing an organised sports activity with a coach as this was deemed Covid secure but couldn’t serve food afterwards as the group was too large. I’d suggest this is similar and the food shouldn’t be happening.

clopper · 03/10/2020 17:23

I wouldn’t report it.

Scweltish · 03/10/2020 17:27

I wouldn’t report and break up a kids birthday party, because I’m not a prick. They were literally all just playing together, and with a lot more kids/people outside of the room. What difference do you think it makes?

Twigletmama · 03/10/2020 17:28

It would count as an organised sports activity. My daughter attended a party on a similar basis last week, also all of her regular activities, ballet, gym have resumed, so this is no different really.

LadyofTheManners · 03/10/2020 17:30

Can we have a new MN emoji of a covid Stasi yellow best please?
Seriously it's a kids party. They'll be at school in a class with 30 of them every day

clopper · 03/10/2020 17:30

Probably all at school together in the same class as well.

This ^^

BendingSpoons · 03/10/2020 17:31

They can often offer class bubble parties with more children so long as they are all from the same class at school. I think having all the adults in the party room is pushing it a bit unless it is big enough to socially distance.

sirfredfredgeorge · 03/10/2020 17:31

It wouldn't count as an organised sport unless the sport was done in alignment with the sports DCMS COVID secure agreement (or the national youth one for non "sports") none of those agreements that I know of all for non-distanced food eating as part of the policies, and certainly Climbing's.

12 kids doing the actual climbing, likely fine.

LIZS · 03/10/2020 17:32

Yes not covid safe, even if the children do mix at school. Parents make it a further risk. Are ropes etc shared?

chunkyrun · 03/10/2020 17:33

I wouldn't businesses are just trying to hang in there. Have a recession on our heels

Yes same here, but the difference is parents have to distance and not hang around in groups, presuming that’s the same everywhere, and that should be in the risk assessment of the organisation, which were part f the procedures they had to have in place to allow them to open safely.

This with bells on!
MandosHatHair · 03/10/2020 17:36

Tbh if it was somewhere I went fairly regularly with my DCs, then no I wouldn't report and risk the place being closed down. Those kids are probably crammed into the same room every weekday anyway.

Elsewyre · 03/10/2020 17:37

Just remember after getting them fined thousands of pounds you're probbaly never going to be welcome there again

loulouljh · 03/10/2020 17:39

I really would NOT report it. It is not your business and could ruin theirs...
