YANBU - No

Yup, and it's worrying

FourPlasticRings · 03/10/2020 03:47

No idea. If you wanted to know I guess you could ask and do a poll.

Goosefoot · 03/10/2020 03:50

I'm not sure. I think most people are fairly moderate, really, be it left or right.

I tend to think that some people with opinions that are seen as non-PC may ted to keep quiet about it.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 03/10/2020 04:01

It probably is more left wing, nothing worrying about that, and far better than the alternative imo.

footprintsintheslow · 03/10/2020 04:07

Good. Nothing to worry about here then.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 03/10/2020 04:20

A few years ago I would of been thought of as a moderate centrist but now the right wing has shifted soooo far right that anything else is left wing.

liverbird10 · 03/10/2020 04:23

You could have fooled me, considering the racist shite that is constantly posted here, but hey ho.

elmouno · 03/10/2020 04:28

No, I think it has gone the BBC route.

FourPlasticRings · 03/10/2020 04:37

@liverbird10

You could have fooled me, considering the racist shite that is constantly posted here, but hey ho.
You can be racist and left wing, can't you? My understanding is that right wing is more into capitalism, less into state support and more into individual agency and people working for themselves, whereas left wing goes more towards communism, state support, equality of opportunity and less individual agency. So private schooling is right wing, taxpayer funded university left wing etc.
Sitt · 03/10/2020 04:54

I have found it increasingly difficult to affiliate myself with any particular wing (though I certainly lean to the left in most things) in terms of current parties and politics, but at the same time I find MNers increasingly quick to label particular opinions or behaviours as left/right wing. Eg any questioning of Covid related restrictions, regardless of the fact that I haven’t said anything about breaking them, is automatically labelled and dismissed as either “trump supporting Covid denier” or “special snowflake leftie feebleness” depending on who reads it. It makes it rather hard to have a sensible conversation

liverbird10 · 03/10/2020 04:56

@FourPlasticRings Fair point, well made... but it's far too late for sensible debate. I'll get back to you when I've slept, and can discuss a topic like a human with a functioning brain! Grin

LadyLoungeALot · 03/10/2020 05:01

I don't think so, there were loads of Tory voters posting last election.

beepbeepsheep · 03/10/2020 05:03

Oh god no I always think it feels like
Tory HQ on here. I'm ordinarily in a bit of a left wing bubble though so could just be that I notice any right wing posts more.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 03/10/2020 05:12

Yup, and it's worrying

What about it ‘worries’ you?

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 03/10/2020 05:13

A few years ago I would of been thought of as a moderate centrist but now the right wing has shifted soooo far right that anything else is left wing.

I also believe the same conversely of the left, that it has shifted so far left that anything else is right wing. It seems as though vocal, radical left and right groups of people are growing and these are the folks causing problems within society. And then you have the centre, centre left and centre right who are quiet and just hold their beliefs, vote and that's that.

crikeycrumbsblimey · 03/10/2020 06:40

Mumsnet is not left wing - incredibly naive middle class right wing

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 03/10/2020 06:43

I think it’s quite Guardian left wing akin to the Guardian ten years ago before it destroyed itself

On most key issues - Brexit, vaccines, elections, covid - very left wing and anti individualism which is labelled as “Trump” like.

BertieBotts · 03/10/2020 06:45

Your poll options don't make sense.

Mumsnet does a census every few years which includes political lean IIRC. You should be able to look this up.

HOkieCOkie · 03/10/2020 06:49

I’m right wing as it happens but I voted you are being unreasonable as who cares. It’s their private choice to be left wing.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 03/10/2020 06:52

Definitely champagne socialism, though. The amount of posters who mutter darkly about the evils Tories on one thread, whilst worrying about whether to go private, or merely send their child to a highly sought after state grammar...

Frazzled13 · 03/10/2020 06:53

Yup, and it's worrying

Why would it be worrying? It’s just people who have (I’m assuming) a different political view to you? You must know they exist.

user1471565182 · 03/10/2020 06:56

oh yeah, very worrying when the right wing dominates 95% of media

user1471565182 · 03/10/2020 06:57

You're seriously asking if the right has an issue with racism?

KatherineJaneway · 03/10/2020 07:02

No, it just seems that way.

There are certain views that are enshrined in the MN world and you cannot say you don't agree or you'll have to don a hard hat and hazmat suit. I suspect most people who disagree just don't engage in those topics as nothing constructive can come of it.

Look at the myriad of posts when the Tory's won the election. The total disbelief from a portion of MN was very telling.

Toontown · 03/10/2020 07:08

It used to be but the daily mail column brought all the right-wingers to the yard. Either way it's good to hear how the other side thinks otherwise it can be an echo chamber. Even the racist shite has a place as a reminder that such vile people exist and that we aren't paranoid.
