8 hours in Kettering - what to do?

DH needs to spend 8 hours in or around Kettering tomorrow (from lunchtime onwards). Weather will be wet. He has a car. Is there anyone local who can advise on where of how to kill some time? e.g. Any swimming pools open nearby? Good cafes that don't mind people hanging around. Libraries with wifi that might be open into the early evening?

All I know about Kettering is it has a huge VW dealership. Book a test drive of a California or something!

Any cafe will be more than happy to have people hanging around as long as they're buying coffee. Lots of coffee shops are used to people working in them all day, try Kino lounge.
There's also the cinema.

Kettering is one of those places where locals leave for a day out, according to one of my friends who lives there. I think it would be difficult to find anywhere willing to let someone sit around for hours in the current climate, particularly not libraries.

It's a bit of a shit hole.

Go somewhere else. Them come back when it's time to finish whatever has dragged him up there. And get the hell out again.

Corby swimming pool is nearby and pretty good. Failing that, cinema??

Bus to rushden lakes? Lots of shops 🤔 maybe some entertainment, it’s been a while since I’ve been!

  • head to lovely Market Harborough for a wander around (20 mins away)
  • head to Rushden lakes for a walk/shopping/coffee at Magazine heaven or cinema
  • Glebe farm tea room for lunch and coffee
  • library and art gallery in town centre - park at the swimming pool

Honestly with 8 hours to kill in Kettering in wet weather I'd either leave and go somewhere else, or just spend the £30 or so and book myself into the Premier Inn.

At least then he can watch TV and use the wifi in comfort, have a nap, won't have to pay for parking and will be in the dry.
