To think she keeps getting pregnant on purpose?

So I’ve got BIL’s wife (we’ll call her Sam) who seems to get pregnant every time any of us gets pregnant and it’s starting to look A little strange. When SIL got pregnant first Sam was livid saying SIL did it on purpose to “steal the spotlight” from her and then proceeded to announce her pregnancy 2 months later.
Another BIL’s (youngest BIL) wife got pregnant about a year later (Sam was upset and claimed it was to sabotage the attention her child was getting 😬) then proceeded to announced her pregnancy a couple months later. About 2 years later I got pregnant with my first and 4 months later she announced she was as well fair enough. Then about 4 years with no babies and the youngest SIL got married and got pregnant straight away and boom 3 months later SIL is pregnant! I’m now pregnant about 6 months after she’s had hers and she’s announced again (A month after we announced) that she’s pregnant are we being silly to think that she’s doing this on purpose? Or is she just fertile myrtle? And we’re all silly?

Unfortunately there are women who compete on the matter and are the joke of the extended family.

It does seem a little strange I must say! However many DC must she now have? Does she do it if her friends become pregnant as well? Maybe she is trying to give Sue Radford a run for her money!

@Opalwindfury

I’m not thinking it’s to spite us at all but it’s a little strange especially since someone mentioned BIL he was upset she’s got pregnant with the 4th as she swore she was on the pill and he found out she’d been tracking ovulation behind his back claiming she was on Birth control he even threatened to leave her my husband and his brother had to actually talk him out of it.

You didn't have to talk him out of it. You chose to. Obviously he chose to listen to you but maybe you should have heard him. Of course, he could buy condoms or abstain.

If she was behaving normally otherwise, I'd say it might be a coincidence and it's none of your business/why do you care/etc. However, with the information that she lied to her husband about using birth control and has made weird comments about people's pregnancies stealing the spotlight, maybe she is using pregnancy as a way of getting attention.

If that's the case, she must be a strange person, and I'd probably keep my distance as much as possible. There's nothing you can do about it, anyway, and life is easier when you avoid weirdos.

The answer is in your first paragraph. She's an attention whore and is using the children as a way of making things about her. Extremely selfish.

What she did to your BIL is awful, he should feel able to leave the relationship. Breaking up the family isn’t a reason to not leave a relationship like this

Yes I’d assume she struggles with the attention others get when they are pregnant/have the brand new baby in the family and is at least partially motivated by this when she always gets pregnant soon after.

Lovely for the kids to have lots of cousins though!

Some people love being pregnant and seeing others pregnant might make them asses life and think they’d like a baby too. If Bil wanted to prevent it he can have a vasectomy.

The bil was tricked with the 4th, so what was no5? did they find it on the doorstep?
He should be ✂️✂️ if he doesn’t trust her.

If she's going to try to keep up with the whole family she'll end up with a small army.

😂😂 Exactly. I really wouldn't worry about it, she's the one who's going to have raise them. Maybe a good time to suggest not buying for each others kids though!

I think your comments about feeling like others have stolen her attention provides your answer. She evidently likes the attention pregnancy, birth and having the youngest in the family brings her, even if it's by a few weeks as it snaps attention back on her, even if others are having their first/a rainbow baby etc . Perhaps it's outright jealousy, perhaps it's wrapped in past issues or just how she feels about herself.

Also- does having the most DC/always having a tiny one to plan round win her some sort of control or consideration when you try and hold family get togethers? Attention plus everyone dancing to her tune and being unwilling to cede that control?

You’re all way too involved In each other’s lives, and all sound immature. Just live and let live.

What a dramatic family you are involved in. Lots of pouting and "that's not fair feelings" are apparent. The goal of all the women in your story seems to be gaining attention. How very weird.

@Asterion

Definitely she's doing it on purpose. Because we all know how easy it is to time getting pregnant!

For some it is that easy. I got pregnant the month after I stopped using birth control. Same with second child, plus I know exactly what date I conceived my youngest!

My sil was similar to this OP. She had 4 children, to beat her ds, who had 3. She was livid when her ds then announced another pregnancy, so she got pregnant again. Unfortunately she lost the baby and my db put his foot down and got the snip to prevent any further pregnancies! Her ‘d’s then had a 5th child and she couldn’t contain herself and called her ‘d’s all the names under the sun, about having to get one over on her! They are no longer in contact with each other! Actually she isn’t in contact with me either, because I had 4 to copy her. Confused Yes, she is nuts!!

If she is, who actually cares? Both of you sound immature and as bad as each other, and you - over invested in your BIL & his wife's sex life, boak.

Who would have a baby for the attention? What attention? Confused

My friends mum had something akin to munchhousen syndrome. She needed to have a new baby all the time. She ended with 11 kids that all hate her for it. But it was definitely a mental illness.

I've seen stranger things ... but it takes two.

If BIL really doesn't want more DCs, and it's obvious his wife can't be trusted with birth control, then he needs to have a vasectomy and use a condom.

You really need to separate yourself from your family OP. When you know a couple’s birth control details, are really are far too involved in their business.

@JanetheObscure

There's definitely a pattern to her pregnancies. But I'm intrigued by the first few lines of your post, OP. Why would Sam say that your first SIL stole her spotlight? What spotlight? (Yes, I get that she may be a narcissist, but she seems to be on particularly flimsy ground there).

Did SIL perhaps announce her pregnancy at Sam's wedding, a bit like Meghan and Harry?

By spotlight I’m assuming around the time SIL got pregnant “Sam” and BIL had announced they’re engagement and the family was abuzz about it then about 3 weeks later SIL announced at the 15 week mark because she didn’t want to cause drama but still it caused a shit storm where she even threatened to disinvite SIL from the wedding. And regarding announcing her pregnancies she never waited till 12 weeks they’d announce as soon as they found out (according to them) and they have even announced ironically as a family members wedding before 😂 needless to say the bride doesn’t not speak to any of The family.
