To think she keeps getting pregnant on purpose?

So I’ve got BIL’s wife (we’ll call her Sam) who seems to get pregnant every time any of us gets pregnant and it’s starting to look A little strange. When SIL got pregnant first Sam was livid saying SIL did it on purpose to “steal the spotlight” from her and then proceeded to announce her pregnancy 2 months later.
Another BIL’s (youngest BIL) wife got pregnant about a year later (Sam was upset and claimed it was to sabotage the attention her child was getting 😬) then proceeded to announced her pregnancy a couple months later. About 2 years later I got pregnant with my first and 4 months later she announced she was as well fair enough. Then about 4 years with no babies and the youngest SIL got married and got pregnant straight away and boom 3 months later SIL is pregnant! I’m now pregnant about 6 months after she’s had hers and she’s announced again (A month after we announced) that she’s pregnant are we being silly to think that she’s doing this on purpose? Or is she just fertile myrtle? And we’re all silly?

Well have your DH make sure he has the conversation that he either uses protection or gets the snip. What a deceitful witch.

fahrt
9 kids! Are they Amish ?

Lantern156 · 01/10/2020 15:08

Her decision to have children is completely her own and not unreasonable, even if she is timing it to coincide with others. But her comments about spotlight stealing etc are ridiculous and self-obsessed.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 01/10/2020 15:09

What a maliciously gossipy lot the female side of your family is, OP.

viques · 01/10/2020 15:11

Tell her you are having triplets, or quads if you can keep a straight face. See how she copes with that news.

IndieRo · 01/10/2020 15:15

I had an Aunt like this. She is married to my late father's brother. Everytime the two sister in laws announced they were pregnant she would announce she just had a miscarriage and then a couple of months later she would announce a pregnancy. She has 8 children. Some women just really like all the attention.

AlwaysLatte · 01/10/2020 15:16

Surely she isn't popping out babies just to wind you all up??

Enough4me · 01/10/2020 15:17

I had an Aunt who had three as my cousin had two. I recall the weird conversations even though I was under 10. Over three decades later I still think it was the only thing she could compete on and win - so sad!

Babyboomtastic · 01/10/2020 15:18

Did she announce at the 12w mark with them all? Is so, for the first few children at least, she's wouldn't have had time to get pregnant between someone else announcing and her being 12 2 months later, so those must be coincidence. Latest offers, who knows.

Asterion · 01/10/2020 15:21

Definitely she's doing it on purpose. Because we all know how easy it is to time getting pregnant!

Scweltish · 01/10/2020 15:28

Stranger things have happened I suppose. I’ve got a relative who does similar things

Yes, it is for some people. I’ve been caught within a month of trying, 4 times
FizzyGreenWater · 01/10/2020 15:39

Wait until she's had this baby then give it a month then tell her you're pregnant again but not to tell anyone yet Grin

Hahahahahaha!!!!!

slipperywhensparticus · 01/10/2020 15:39

I got caught quick all three times if had wanted to i guess I could have timed it to concide with other peoples

What a great idea.
Witchend · 01/10/2020 15:44

LOL.

Maybe.
One of dh's siblings moved every time one of the siblings moved, and bought a new car just after them.

When we got a new car, I wanted dh to borrow his managing director's very expensive car and drop in on them and pretend it was ours. The MD would have thought it hilarious and let him, I'm sure.
Because I just knew they'd buy a better car shortly afterwards.

They're the sort of people who don't go to "the supermarket"-they go "to Waitrose" (apparently even the Heinz bakes beans are better there Grin) and don't go out to the car they go to "the Audi". It's quite sad really that they bother so much about what people think.

JanetheObscure · 01/10/2020 15:46

There's definitely a pattern to her pregnancies. But I'm intrigued by the first few lines of your post, OP. Why would Sam say that your first SIL stole her spotlight? What spotlight? (Yes, I get that she may be a narcissist, but she seems to be on particularly flimsy ground there).

Did SIL perhaps announce her pregnancy at Sam's wedding, a bit like Meghan and Harry?

Fedupoftheworld · 01/10/2020 15:50

She’s doing it on purpose if she lied to her husband. Can she even cope with the children she has?

Notyoungbutscrappyandhungry · 01/10/2020 15:54

I think you’re all being a bit unreasonable. Stealing spotlight is a silly term. She was silly to think it. On the other hand, women get pregnant all the time. It’s hardly strange if she was planning to get pregnant that she would get pregnant around the same time. My sister in laws have all had babies around the same time. I don’t think anything of it (other than the cousins will be the same age which is lovely). Stop worrying about each other’s reproduction and don’t get involved in each other’s marriages would be my advice!

jessstan1 · 01/10/2020 15:55

Plenty of 'gets' and 'gots' in your opening post. How have you 'got' BIL's wife?

People within an age group do tend to become pregnant and have babies close together. I don't have siblings but when I had mine there were plenty of people I knew who did the same within a couple of years. Don't read so much into it.

SecretWitch · 01/10/2020 15:56

Why is this any of your business? Mind your own life and let her get on with hers.

Lovemusic33 · 01/10/2020 16:04

Maybe she wants to have kids at the same time so they have cousins a similar age? I don’t think it would really bother me, I don’t think it steels anyone’s lime light as the birth of any child is special.

WorraLiberty · 01/10/2020 16:05

Nah I'm not buying it that she does it to 'steal attention' or the 'spotlight'.

They're just babies. How much attention does your family give pregnant women for goodness sake? Confused
