About the smell of weed coming from next door

My daughter can smell weed in her bedroom, which isn't something she finds particularly pleasant, not sure if it's seeping through the walls, or they are smoking outside below her room. I can see they are growing cannabis plants on their bedroom window cill so pretty certain it's that/them.
Trouble is they are new neighbours and just wondering how best to tackle this?

It doesn’t matter if they’re poor or not. Obviously this wasn’t meant to be applied to this situation exclusively. also, you can be still be “poor” and buy a house…
Just let people exercise their civil liberties. If you have an issue personally with someone, address them about it in a polite manner.
You’re no different to a medieval peasant reporting someone for being a witch.

Lostswallow · 10/08/2021 17:50

Sorry, that was meant for the woman who was saying to call the police.

Lostswallow · 10/08/2021 17:52

You’re not very bright, or diplomatic are you?
You do realise that reporting people to the police just perpetuates the circle of poverty?
Someone didn’t do very well on their A-level critical thinking….

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/08/2021 17:52

Just let people exercise their civil liberties. Really, you aren't making sense.

What civil liberty allows you to break the law without annoying people?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/08/2021 17:53

And who are you repeating yourself to?

maddy68 · 10/08/2021 17:56

Those saying report to the police 🙄🙄just why?

Nip round and say that your daughter is commenting all the time and the smell is keeping her awake. Would they be so kind as to smoke the other side of their garden

Lostswallow · 10/08/2021 18:42

The legality is irrelevant. There are many issues with big government, the infringement of civil liberties is one. By reporting someone to the police, you're basically adding to the culture which is keeping weed illegal. Which not only is a violation of civil liberties but is more often than not extremely classist and racist.

Lostswallow · 10/08/2021 18:44

Exactly, a sensible suggestion!

You all realise this thread was started in October 2020 right?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/08/2021 18:58

Groan!

Dammit!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/08/2021 19:00

Mind you it has thrown up a new ideology - one I had managed to ignore so far.

By reporting someone to the police, you're basically adding to the culture which is keeping weed illegal. Which not only is a violation of civil liberties but is more often than not extremely classist and racist.

Given my experience with weed of yore and skunk of latter days, keeping skunk illegal seems a good idea to me!

StoneofDestiny · 10/08/2021 19:51

Tell them your daughter is suffering with the weed smoke and as she has serious breathing problems you need to contact their landlord to address the ventilation system in their home that's allowing it to escape into your bedrooms. (If they aren't renting, substitute getting advice from environmental health).

Lostswallow · 10/08/2021 20:08

Up the RA.

Lostswallow · 10/08/2021 20:09

Again, you're ignoring the fundamental issues and negative impacts that the prohibition of cannabis has on society. You offer no rebuttal, only your experience which is ironic given the point you're failing to grasp.

Thevoiceofreason2021 · 10/08/2021 20:32

Go and speak to them, ask them to smoke else where, try and keep it civil. It’s very antisocial. Are they renting? If so could you complain to the landlord?

DailyMaui · 10/08/2021 20:50

No one is growing cannabis on a window sill in the UK. Well, not for harvest leastways. For a decent yield you'd need a plant around 3-4ft tall minimum, and at least 2ft at the base.

My mum liked a spliff every evening and grew massive bushy cannabis plants on the kitchen windowsill in Edinburgh! this was back in the late seventies... maybe the plants were hardier then!
