Boredbumhead · 01/10/2020 11:38

A job has come up in my hometown. It would be where many of my friends live. It would be a sideways move on the same salary. It would mean leaving my academic job and going into an academic related role. I have about 5 hrs to apply.... Help me decided what to do? +

What are the positive/negative for applying?

Modestandatinybitsexy · 01/10/2020 11:39

What are the pros and cons? Do you want to move? Do the hours fit with your lifestyle? Would you find the role fulfilling?

tttigress · 01/10/2020 11:41

Are you desperate to get back to your home town? Any ties to your current location?

EarlGreyT · 01/10/2020 11:41

Apply. If you apply it buys you time to think more about whether you want it and you can withdraw your application if you decide you don’t want it. Applying isn’t a guarantee you’ll get an interview or the job and if you do get an interview you can use this as an opportunity to determine whether you want the job as well.

RedCatBlueCat · 01/10/2020 11:43

Apply.
You can then think about it further, and withdraw at any point you wish.
If you dont apply, you wont be able to change your mind.

DizzyPigeon · 01/10/2020 11:45

Unless you know for sure you don't want the job, you should apply.

Am interview gives you the chance to asks questions to find out more, so should you get that far, you'll have a better idea whether or not you'd want it.

DeeThree · 01/10/2020 11:47

Apply. You don't have to take the job if offered.

bravotango · 01/10/2020 11:50

Is it a more stable contract? I would apply if so

Graphista · 01/10/2020 12:01

Go for it! As it's a time sensitive decision

Even if you're offered it if at a later stage you decide against you can withdraw application/turn down the job

Charleyhorses · 01/10/2020 12:03

Just apply!
Not a decision to be made until it is offered!

caringcarer · 01/10/2020 12:40

Applying buys you time to decide if you want to move or not.

altiara · 01/10/2020 12:41

Apply and then think about it.

Boredbumhead · 01/10/2020 13:11

Thank you for all the comments. I don't know why I'm stalling so much.
