Have a great friend who is renound for being a bit stingy! Other than that is lovely, but it’s a bit of a running joke that she usually gets out of paying for things. If we go out for lunch she just has a drink, or maybe a starter, takes her own coffee to coffee shops etc!

Was shocked the other day when she said she’d just spent £6000 on a light! I nearly fell over!

Obvs none of my business but made me chuckle....

I’ll give her her due, at least she’s not a CF who orders what she wants then doesn’t contribute.

I’m wondering if your friend is my cousin - lovely lady - slightly off the wall with how much things cost! She would say 6k for a light is perfectly reasonable! When I was decorating, she recommended a carpet shop she thought I would like - oh they were lovely! They quoted £3500 for my 4mx5m loving room. She didn’t understand why I didn’t go for it! But then she’s also someone who scrimps in other areas - she’ll rant for hours about a magnum costing £2 at the ice cream van. To her that’s a rip off but spending £90 on a chopping board is reasonable. It’s amazing how we all see things.

What the hell kind of light? Overhead? Lamp? Chandelier in a mansion? Hand blown glass installation art?

Did it need new electrical wiring? A new fuse box installing in the house?

If you're not prepared to even buy a coffee in a coffee shop but prepared to take advantage of the place by using their facilities, ie chairs, tables, etc., then you really shouldn't be in it. Cheeky cow.

I love the idea that you shouldn't spend money on shit that won't exist in 5 minutes.

I do similar.

Resent the idea of paying out fifty quid for a steak meal I could make better at home for under twenty. Won't buy a can of Rio for £2 at the chip shop, but will spend 50p on one from the shop 3 doors down on the way back. DTwatCats get wanky cat food and the least awful shit box filling, rather than packets of Felix and a bag of Fullers' Earth. I have a £40 microwave/toaster/£18 kettle, with an expensive (for me) fridge, freezer, washing machine and vacuum cleaner. Fuck Le Crueset, but the frying pan cost fifty notes.

Nobody is ever going to find me wearing a pair of shoes that cost a tenner or with a pillow that cost £7 for two from the supermarket and my shopping bill for ingredients is phenomenal. When I feel it's OK to go back to the gym, it's the fancy one with a pool and no walk ins from the street or children rather than the ones run for the council. And whilst the capris and top might be Primark, the trainers and sports bra certainly aren't.

I prioritise things for physical comfort, health and longevity, and as that means I have to economise on some things to get those, I do avoid unecessary expenditure on the things I think it doesn't matter on or where I don't really need it anyway.

I wouldn't ever spunk six grand on a light fitting, but I did spend fifty quid on one, rather than sticking to the bare bulb hanging from the ceiling that the ex thought was perfectly attractive.

@Sniv

I have just looked at various shops and I can't actually find a light for £6000 - not even a chandelier (This may also be the first time I have used 'sort by price: high to low' in my life). It must be some hand crafted one-of-a-kind thing?

Check out this beauty for a mere £3600 at John Lewis, though. It better be twice as nice as this.

Artemide,Flos,Tom Dixon,Poulsen and quite a few more have lights that cost £6000 or more...

I wouldn't call her stingy, to me stingy is someone not paying their way but taking advantage of others paying.
It sounds like she is careful with her money and puts it towards things she values.
Don't see anything wrong with that.

When we used to go out a lot we used to stay out of rounds as we didn't have the cash to get in to rounds of drinks. We earned half what our friends did. I'd hate to think people called us stingy for that.

I'd never spend 6K on a light though. Maybe on a really nice couch!

Each to their own
I wouldn’t spend 6k on a light
However could easily buy a second home if I hadn’t spent it all on jewellery, shoes, handbags and clothing

I have a similar friend. I stopped going for coffee with her when I saw her surreptitiously pocket the tip I'd left for the waitress. Not on. Not at all.

The reason these tight arses have money is because they ponce off of other people and claim ‘I don’t have any money’ so claim hardship with friends and family, when in reality they’re a stingy bunch of cunts who hold onto the backs of others. Clawing onto the pennies like a miser.
Sorry, my dhs parents are like this.
