To be confused by track and trace?

Work colleague had tested positive for COVID, we work in very close proximity.
Received a call from an NHS tracker, however the information does not align with the information provided on their website.
I have been told that I do not need to isolate unless I develop symptoms and if I’m worried I can book a test online without symptoms for peace of mind. I was under the impression tests only work if symptoms are present? I was in the middle of work during the call so should have asked for clarification on that but was slightly taken aback and only checked online afterwards. Anyone heard similar?

Tests work without symptoms, but if you are a close contact of someone who's tested positive you need to isolate regardless of a test as you could still be incubating yet test negative.

A close contact is broadly sometime who you've been less than 2m away from for more than 15 minutes. Would that fit? (There are a few others re direct face to face/being coughed on etc, but they're fairly unusual)

My childminder has Covid. I didn't receive any call from track and trace. Spoke to GP who confirmed regardless of any negative Covid test we need to isolate for 14 days. Schools told us same information.

Two of my colleagues had it - one was symptomatic, the other wasn't but was invited to be tested along with everyone else who'd spent any time with the symptomatic one was invited to be tested, which is how they picked up the asymptomatic one.

It's TEST and trace btw. Track and trace is for parcels.

It is likely that you didn't meet their criteria for self isolation (which should be the case if you are following the Covid safety guidelines at work)

I'm currently self isolating due to a colleague testing positive, we work at

Oh and it doesn't matter if you were wearing masks/shields. The only ppe that counts is full medical grade ppe.

It's more likely that test and trace is not fit for purpose. In the OP's words, they work in very close proximity with their colleague.
