What is a hun?

I’ve seen this pop up a few times in threads eg ‘the sort of thing huns like’ or ‘that website is full of huns’

What exactly is a hun? Is it just somebody who says ‘hun’ a lot? What things are supposedly liked by huns?

Look up hunsnet or loveofhuns on Instagram, they are hilarious!

oakleaffy · 30/09/2020 15:29

@amusedbush

As others have said, it's people who are really into MLMs/Mrs Hinch/grey interior decor/mangling beautiful antique furniture with fablon and frenchic paint.

However, I'm in Glasgow so a hun means something totally different here Grin

The mangling of beautiful antique rocking horses covered in Star Dapples and Anny Slone paint...... with manes and tails to the floor....

Oh is this Huns?

Have seen lots of those before coming off farcebook.

Please, please don't defile century or so old paint with Chalk paint or a long mane and tail.

Bald and beautiful is so much better.

What is a hun?

A product based pyramid scheme pusher:

“Hi Hun, I have this really great opportunity for you to lose money and friends by getting involved in “my” business, it’s called Forever Living/Younique/JuicePlus/Body Shop at Home/Avon/Valentus/Flamingo Paperie/Herbalife/NuSkin/Tropic/Usbourne/
limelife/Everra/Utility Warehouse/Lipsense/Amway/Neal’s Yard/Modere/FM World/Business Bombshells etc etc”

Someone with a cupboard full of Zoflora in various fragrances.

@MrsTerryPratchett

Only page two and the descent into misogyny and classism has begun.

Fun.

Yes - very disappointing to see some of the words being bandied about on this thread.
funinthesun19 · 30/09/2020 15:58

An example.

They are the friends of your partner’s ex. They are obsessed with shit stirring. Friends who if they see you in public quickly get on the phone to her and go,

“Oh my god hun, I JUST saw Leanne in Morrison’s! She was buying stuff.” (random name btw)

OlympicProcrastinator · 30/09/2020 16:02

It’s basically just another way for middle class women to mock working class women as far as I can see.

formerbabe · 30/09/2020 16:07

Someone has asked what a word which specifies a particular stereotype of a woman means...what did you think would be the response?

Fun.

Its a fair cop tbh.

In all fairness it does work the other way round though.

unmarkedbythat · 30/09/2020 16:19

I'm assuming you're not asking why we fans of the most successful football club of all time get called huns Grin

On MN, "hun" is a term based in snobbery implying that the person being described is inferior to the one doing the describing.

GeorgeMichaelsEspadrille · 30/09/2020 16:22

As an 'Essex girl' I can confirm that I have never called anyone a hun in my life.

Cunt yes. Hun no.

SnaccidentsHappen · 30/09/2020 16:23

@BadEyeBri

And something completely different in N.Ireland...
And in Glasgow

pramhuns, anyone??

Thurmanmurman · 30/09/2020 16:28

Can someone please explain why it’s OK to refer to people as ‘Huns’ on here, criticise and take the piss out of other women for liking popular things like grey decor and Fiat 500 cars. However, call someone a ‘Karen’ and you’re ripped to shreds as it’s mysogonistic, apparently? Not trying to start an argument I just genuinely don’t understand. (Perhaps I’m a Hun)!

A Rangers fan Grin
😂 yup, thats what it means where I live. Not on here though.
BowtieBling · 30/09/2020 16:31

Upper middle class twat from the burbs who looks down on the PTA mum's and presumes to know everything about everyone.
Greets those she despises with a loud 'Hi Hun'.

This describes the *Karen on my school run. She has a gang of 3 devoted followers who she uses to pass information about people to others and you can practically see the twinkle in her eyes when the shit hits the fan.
Her social media page is half a dozen posts a day about the charity work she is doing or the products she is selling.

*not using Karen as a slur, is her actual name.Walking stereotype and utter poison

Scarlettpixie · 30/09/2020 16:34

@seayork2020

I thought it was name short for honey as in 'take the rubbish out hun'
This. It is a term of endearment.
BrumBoo · 30/09/2020 16:35

Yup, plenty of Karens and Chav being thrown in to the mix.

'Hun' is stereotyped as a Love Island watching, Mrs Hinch cleaning, low educated, single mother type person (as if any of those things are bad individually or together). I've known plenty of people from all class to use it, yet there is a competition in society at the moment to take any opportunity to sneer at women and 'hun' gives ample opportunity to take the piss.

Not using Karen as a slur, yet referring to her as 'the Karen'. Sure thing.
formerbabe · 30/09/2020 16:37

I also think it describes a woman who sits on the fence and wants every one to like her hence never being too opinionated and peppering speech with huns and babes so everyone thinks she is nice

EggyPegg · 30/09/2020 16:39

@Bluesheep8

Shouldn't it be spelt Hon if it's short for Honey? Obviously I am far too pedantic to be one....
My friend calls me 'hunny' in texts. It makes my teeth itch (she's otherwise lovely).
Newjez · 30/09/2020 16:45

Not to confused with ghengis khan.
