What is a hun?

picklecustard · 30/09/2020 13:18

I’ve seen this pop up a few times in threads eg ‘the sort of thing huns like’ or ‘that website is full of huns’

What exactly is a hun? Is it just somebody who says ‘hun’ a lot? What things are supposedly liked by huns?

See also “haha’s” and exclaimers!

People who insert random haha’s into sentences haha. I’ve seen whole paragraphs haha with haha’s every few words haha.

Or instead! They use exclamation points! The whole thing reads like a hyperexcitable puppy! If you see what I mean!

It’s that or hun, hun. Seems to be used as some sort of punctuation hun. Grammar nazi that I am hun it really bugs me hun.

thepeopleversuswork · 30/09/2020 13:48

bluebluezoo or the inability to type a sentence of text without the insertion of three or four emojis

Like a laughter track on a bad comedy programme, designed to signpost when something is supposed to be funny.

I belong to a group of Facebook which I like but everyone on there seems to call everyone hun. I'll have to leave because of it - it's getting too much.

shitinmyhandsandclap · 30/09/2020 14:29

SIL is a hun, she calls everyone hun, she promotes Juice Plus, has lots of wooden laugh, love, life shit and wicker hearts around the place. Her daughter has now started calling everyone hun, promotes Younique and has turned into a total mini me

autumnmisty · 30/09/2020 14:32

@MaxNormal & @AgentProvocateur First thing that sprung to my mind as well!

Bluesheep8 · 30/09/2020 14:32

Shouldn't it be spelt Hon if it's short for Honey?
Obviously I am far too pedantic to be one....

autumnmisty · 30/09/2020 14:33

Perhaps it could be a sort of conundrum like, if all rangers fan's are huns but not all huns are rangers fans ....Grin

Octoberfish · 30/09/2020 14:36

It's a slightly snobby term for anyone who values looks over intellect. It comes from the ubiquitous "U OK, hun" - I believe it's short for "honey", but is a) badly spelt and b) cheesy, hence the pisstaking.

A hun typically has a regular gel manicure, immaculately threaded eyebrows, and will lament the return of their lil man and princess to school.

They may also be anti-vaxxers and mask-refusers.

It's not a compliment.

Missh07 · 30/09/2020 14:39

Hun - generally used by condescending Karen's to describe people they deem underneath them as per this entire thread!

P.s Hope that exclamation mark didn't make me seem too much like an excitable puppy.

amusedbush · 30/09/2020 14:40

As others have said, it's people who are really into MLMs/Mrs Hinch/grey interior decor/mangling beautiful antique furniture with fablon and frenchic paint.

However, I'm in Glasgow so a hun means something totally different here Grin

Frost1nMay · 30/09/2020 14:41

My vey vey aristo friend calls everyone "hon", so I feel like a parliamentary peer.

GetTheDoorFrank · 30/09/2020 14:45

Hun is used as a way to describe rangers fans likewise a tim describes celtic fans

GoldieBearRight · 30/09/2020 14:45

'Boss Babes' who try to shill their shit MLM products on everyone they meet. Either that or get you to join up so you can lose money with them.

My definition...a overly nice (fake or real) woman who never expresses very strong opinions, not very ambitious, more working class than middle class but definitely not the underclass, who puts a high value on cleanliness, appearances and material goods.

Cocomarine · 30/09/2020 14:54

Oh yes to having a “lil man” Grin
Definitely perceived intellect.

Yup couldn't agree more
justanotherneighinparadise · 30/09/2020 14:58

The people that use hun in written form are usually people I get trapped in small talk conversations in real life and can’t escape. So I’m not a fan.

Redcups64 · 30/09/2020 14:58

Hun is a perfect mix between a Karen and a chav- it’s insulting but used a lot platonically too without being insulting.

Suppose it depends on the way it’s said?

Only page two and the descent into misogyny and classism has begun.

Fun.
