NHS Test and Trace email

Lochandthistle · 30/09/2020 09:05

Sorry posting for traffic!

Has anybody else received a scam email from test and trace? Or received a legitimate email that could let me know what it says.

I believe the email i received is a scam but what to be completely sure before I leave the house!

Things that make me think its a scam!

1, Its only asking me to isolate until the 4th of October. I thought Isolation would be for 14 days
2, it was addressed to my maiden name and my last name was spelt wrong.
3, From the government website it states that the proper email will ask you to sign in and give your details. This email gives me a bunch of government website links but doesn’t ask me to do anything like this!

I would appreciate any help. I am pretty anxious and would not want to make anyone ill!

What email address is it from?

dementedpixie · 30/09/2020 09:20

Isolation would start from date of the last contact with the person, not the date of the email

Lochandthistle · 30/09/2020 09:29

Thank you for the replies the email address is [email protected]

I must admit this email address looks pretty legitimate. I downloaded the app on Friday so I wouldn’t have put me in contact with someone before then.

Sounds fake to me!

bonjonbovi · 30/09/2020 09:33

Can you click on the email address or hover over it, I bet it’ll show something different.

Southernc0mfortmirror · 30/09/2020 09:35

Can you tweet them to check? The Twitter is @nhscovid19app

Lochandthistle · 30/09/2020 09:36

I didn’t realise you could tweet them. I don’t have twitter but will create an account to do that. I have been trying to find a number to ring so i can be 100% sure but can’t find anything

Maybe call 119?

Everley · 30/09/2020 09:38

I have had an email from the same email address OP but I was expecting one as someone I had been in contact with had tested positive.

The original contact from Test & Trace was from a text though. In the text I had a link to click on to create an account and then provide my details.

GolfForBrains · 30/09/2020 09:41

The app doesn't know who you are because you have only given the first part of your postcode, it would tell you by notification through the app, not email.

That isn't to say though that you haven't been in contact with someone and this is through the NHS contact tracing service. That would tie up with someone you met 10 days ago who doesn't know you that well and gave the wrong spelling of your name etc and your email address when they logged in to the website and gave the details of who they had been in contact with? It would be a weird scam if it's not asking you for personal details or money.

xtinak · 30/09/2020 09:47

Rather than being a scam it could just be a display of general test and trace incompetence?

Seems like a less than ideal to only send people an email. A lot of folk don't read their emails.

middleager · 30/09/2020 09:50

I understand your scepticism.
I bet there are scammers manipulating the situation already (there was a warning on FB of a scam - wonder if this is it?)
Why would they use your maiden name?
Definitely agree with Twitter. I'd need more than an email as I haven't used maiden name in years.

middleager · 30/09/2020 09:52

Just checked. The scam I mentioned is a phone call, asking for money at the end!

Lochandthistle · 30/09/2020 09:52

No notification or anything from the app asking me to sign in. I must admit it would be a very weird scam as they are not asking for anything

I can’t think of anyone i would be contact with that wouldn’t tell me personally if they had a positive test result. Just my mum and close friend and I have spoken to them both since

They have used my maiden name and not spelt it correctly. I have been married 4 years.

Think back two weeks from 4th October. We you with anyone that day that night use your maiden name?

Sounds legit to be honest. They ask you for two weeks from the date of contact. The person then gets symptoms, gets a test, waits for results and then you get contacted. That can take ten days. It did for my son.

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 30/09/2020 10:09

Do you use your maiden name for work, or does your maiden name feature on your email address?

MiniCooperLover · 30/09/2020 10:10

Click into the actual email address, it may well say something very different

MrsWooster · 30/09/2020 10:12

Don’t click into my links within the email. Can you go to the y&zut website and log in there somehow?

MrsWooster · 30/09/2020 10:13

T&T!!

Lochandthistle · 30/09/2020 10:15

I have honestly have only seen two people outside my household in the last two weeks. My email address does feature my maiden name but is an old email address and one I haven’t used for ages. My work know me as my married name.

It does sound more likely that is real though I think I will just isolate to be on the safe side.

OP posts:
Lochandthistle · 30/09/2020 10:17

Sorry I have also seen people from work but I work in a very small office and saw them yesterday with no mention of anything

OP posts:
middleager · 30/09/2020 10:19

You're more compliant than me then. I would try to double check before volunteering to self isolate.

I thought T&T communicated via phone and text.

I wish there was consistency and clear messaging from the Govt.

Pythonesque · 30/09/2020 10:19

Two weeks back from Oct 4th is a Sunday. Are you a churchgoer? Any other Sunday outings? Did you leave brief details anywhere that might have just been email and your name not clear so they got it off the email?

Lochandthistle · 30/09/2020 10:21

I would be better to try and double check but will make sure before i go anywhere today. I have sent a tweet so just waiting to see if they will respond
