YABU
It's nice to use a varied vocabulary.

candlles · 29/09/2020 21:54

It really gets my goat.

@candlles

It really gets my goat.
It makes me cringe when people use “gets my goat”.
Keeping2ChevronsApart · 29/09/2020 22:12

I've said 'that was yummy' if someone has cooked me something I enjoyed.

Now, tummy that's really annoying and should only ever be used when talking to a very small child. Belly is the worst word ever!

iMatter · 29/09/2020 22:13

Nom nom is the worst by a mile

BritWifeinUSA · 29/09/2020 22:21

I used to work with some who, every lunch time without fail, would eat something very boring that her boring husband had packed into a Tupperware box for her and then sit back and say “that was yummy for my tummy” whilst patting her abdomen and grinning like an idiot. Gods, I wanted to slap her every day.

Arsewell · 29/09/2020 22:22

You are definitely NBU. Yummy and scrummy, just no! I also hate it when adults refer to their "tummies".

I've seen this before on MN. What is the good alternative for tummy then? I do use it just because I hate belly and I think many people don't understand abdomen, it's a bit too medical jargon.
FunTimes2020 · 29/09/2020 22:28

@MeepleMe stomach?

crossstitchingnana · 29/09/2020 22:31

"Yum" is even worse. I hate yummy and belly. 🤢

chipsandgin · 29/09/2020 22:34

I like yummy. I don’t like ‘gets my goat’. I don’t have a goat to get.

Lockheart · 29/09/2020 22:35

Yummy, tummy, choccy (or chocs), sweeties, veggies - all are ridiculous twee shit.

My doctor once referred to my tummy. I'm not 5.

Perhaps at my next smear they'll refer to my foofoo (or other such nonsense).

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 29/09/2020 22:36

Cannot abide that word.

thelastjuliet · 29/09/2020 22:37

only when they are not speaking to children lol

chipsandgin · 29/09/2020 22:37

Actually just looked it up, interesting origin..

“This expression comes from a tradition in horse racing. Thought to have a calming effect on high-strung thoroughbreds, a goat was placed in the horse's stall on the night before the race. Unscrupulous opponents would then steal the goat in an effort to upset the horse and cause it to lose the race”.

Luckily I’m not a ‘highly strung thoroughbred’ so I’m ok, ‘yummy’ it is then ;)

Northernsoullover · 29/09/2020 22:37

I got told off for berating a poster (nicely-ish) the other day for referring to her partners 'high tummy'. I'm still not sorry.

MeepleMe · 29/09/2020 22:38

@FunTimes2020 but stomach can only refer to the actual organ, what if the problem area being talked about is actually somewhere near the navel, or lower down? The stomach is nowhere near these areas. I would really like there to be a good alternative, like kneecap is to patella, but there doesn't seem to be!

ShinyGreenElephant · 29/09/2020 22:40

Yummy, tummy, nom nom are all awful when used by adults, but poorly is the worst. Absolutely hate it, makes me turn inside out. Just sounds so pathetic and poor-little-me

'turns me inside out' is exactly it!

I remember an adult relative once said they had a belly ache, it was too awful to hear !

sapnupuas · 29/09/2020 22:49

WTF is a high tummy??

MagnoliaXYZ · 29/09/2020 22:49

Neither yummy nor tummy bother me.

Sorry, but I do ask my adult patients about previous ulcers in their tummy and how their waterworks are. If referring to a penis, vagina or breasts, I usually use the terminology the patient uses to me to try and save them any embarrassment.

imfatletsparty · 29/09/2020 23:08

Grown women referring to their "foofs" is even worse.

paintmywholehousepink · 29/09/2020 23:34

How about "Super Yumzers!!!" Op??

seayork2020 · 29/09/2020 23:43

A basic yummy i am fine with but I can't handle when adults speak to other adults like they are children and use a particular voice

Krook · 29/09/2020 23:49

I prefer 'tummy' to 'belly'. I cringed just typing it.
