AIBU to wonder if the price of an iPhone 6 is higher since Covid app released?

Was thinking I might treat myself to an iPhone 6 and was shocked at how much they are. Has their price increased since the Covid app was released for download or am I just out of touch?

Why iPhone 6 in particular?

How much were they pre and post the Covid app?

CasperGutman · 29/09/2020 21:28

Why would the lack of compatibility increase the price? If you own a more up-to-date phone you can just choose not to install the app. 🤷‍♂️

Treesofwood · 29/09/2020 21:33

Maybe people would feel. More comfortable saying their phone is too old when challenged re the app than the truth? Not sure. But I'm surprised a 6 year old phone still sells for £250.

I don't know how much they were before, I just thought they were expensive so wondered if they had become more valuable due to compatibility issues. Or if that's just how much they have always been

You can’t get the app on iPhone 6, it’s got to be the 6s or newer.
The prices have been pretty high for a while, I bought one for DS for under £100, 3 months later mine broke and they had nearly doubled in price!

I think I'm missing some context for this thread.

But £250 for a new iPhone 6 (especially 6+) was the market price pre-CV too.

DilysPrice · 29/09/2020 21:36

I’ve got a 6 - it still works pretty well but with the release of iOS 14 it’s only a matter of time before it stops supporting my favourite apps. The going rate seems to be between one hundred and one fifty for refurbs and mine does still feel like a hundred quid’s worth of tech.

I think you’d need to be a really dedicated twat to go out and buy one specifically so you’d have an excuse not to get the NHS Covid app.

But Apple are still producing them, so technically not old phones.

strappedup · 29/09/2020 21:42

i don’t know how much they were before

Confused
Treesofwood · 29/09/2020 21:43

I am joking by the way. Really dedicated twats would probably just go out and buy a Nokia for a tenner. No chance of Covid app then.

You know you have to actually download the app dont you? If you don't want the app you just don't download it

HermioneWeasley · 29/09/2020 21:46

Whatever you do, don’t buy from quick mobile fix. Got a reconditioned 6 from there are battery life was shocking,

Gifgaff have 7s for about £250

Howlooseisyourgoose · 29/09/2020 21:47

Just realised I should clarify I meant the iPhone 6s, not 6. Also they're not making them anymore.

ButtWormHole · 29/09/2020 21:50

Soooo I actually bought an iPhone 7 from CEX earlier this year. Grade A (the highest) unlocked was £195 in April. If you’re finding them for £250+ now then yep, they’ve gone up

oldmapie · 29/09/2020 22:26

I got iPhone 6 off eBay for £39.50 (inc.postage) it's 64gb, I wouldn't pay anymore than that for old tech. Obvs more GB higher price. I think the battery is better with the 5SE but I wanted a bigger screen to read my books.

fallfallfall · 29/09/2020 22:27

aren't they up to 10 or 11??

CitizenFame · 29/09/2020 22:29

I have a 6 and didn’t know it wasn’t compatible with the app. I ignored the text message I got telling me to install and now realise they needn’t have bothered Grin

Phones have lots of precious metals in them - collect them all and you will be rich
