To think I have long covid even though I'm not laid out with it?

At the back end of February I had a horrendous cough and flu-y type virus that went on for weeks. I was about as ill as I've ever been, but kept on working as this is standard in my workplace (if you can get up, you come in). I lost my sense of smell and taste, which I'd never had with any cough/bug before. I was just coming to the 'end' of it as COVID started to become big news, and I was recovered (I thought) by the time lockdown began. Felt awful though as I felt quite sure I'd had covid and had exposed my colleagues.

One colleague in my office went off sick with a similar cough just before lockdown; she has since been diagnosed with covid, and signed off work for an extended period as she has developed severe post viral fatigue. Even now she is on phased return.

As for me, I thought I was better; but over time I've noticed I am still terribly breathless and have an ongoing cough that just won't shift. I'll be OK all day then when I lie down in bed at night I'll be barking for ages before I get to sleep. I can't climb the stairs without getting ridiculously out of breath, so I can't speak. I am still able to walk, work, look after my toddler. But these two ongoing symptoms are constantly bothering me.

I have another friend who has developed 'long covid' following a virus, and she says the main symptoms are brain fog and bone-deep fatigue. This ties in to what my colleague has also reported. I don't have either of these.

Am I being daft? Is it something else? Or could this be long covid?

Not that it really matters i suppose, I just feel rough and would like to know what to do to sort it out!

I think post viral fatigue like any other illness affects us all in different ways. I am currently signed off with exhaustion - I was tested positive for covid almost two weeks ago. I’m planning to go back on Monday because I am starting to feel better. However, some people are ill for many months after any virus, not just covid.
