I had ravioli on sunday night at 9 by 12 i was violently vomiting and on the loo.
This continued all night but i got a fright when i saw blood in the loo.
On the loo all day yesterday and si much blood. Cramps were worse than labour.
I fainted twice and the sweats were awful, cold clammy waves.
I m able to walk today but never ever experienced anythink like it.
Could a fresh veg ravioli cause this? Goats cheese pesto...its the only thing i d eaten differently to the family and they re all fine

I guess it could. Seems a bit extreme though. Maybe call your GP for a phone appointment today?

DonLewis · 29/09/2020 07:13

4 hours is a quick onset. Most food poisoning is at least 24 hours onset. That's not to say its impossible (bacillus and staph can cause a fast onset). What have you eaten in the preceeding 24/48 hours?

How was the pasta stored? And the pesto? Was it cooked through properly?

toomuchfaster · 29/09/2020 07:15

A quick Google suggests yes, it's not massively common but vegetables can be contaminated with E coli and other bacteria that cause food poisoning. Your symptoms definitely sound like it. Make sure you get plenty of rest and clear fluids until you feel better.

EggysMom · 29/09/2020 07:17

The blood could have been from previously-unknown piles ....

Lantern156 · 29/09/2020 07:18

You poor thing, that sounds terrible.

I does sound like a particularly vicious form of food poisoning. The bleeding was likely because of irritation to your gut, or to you anus from all the wiping (sorry for that lovely, graphic image).

Give yourself a couple of days to fully recover. Drink water and only eat very bland food.

bumblingbovine49 · 29/09/2020 07:43

I would check that the bleeding is normal with your gp. Excluding that you are describing several episodes of d,&v that I have had in my life. They are not numerous but very memorable. Usually they come in very quickly and last 12-24 hours with the dizziness)/fainting and inability to stand and awful painful cramps. I've always assumed they were a bug of some sort. I usually feel wiped for a day or two after but then I am usually fine.

The bleeding would worry me a bit though as I've not had that before

AriettyHomily · 29/09/2020 07:45

It came on too quickly to be food poisoning imo. Likley a noro type bug.

Bagelsandbrie · 29/09/2020 07:45

The blood is a bit worrying. You should get that checked out by a GP just to be on the safe side. Could be piles that were irritated by the upset stomach but still better to be safe than sorry. Bleeding isn’t generally a symptom of food poisoning.

Halfwreckedbykids · 29/09/2020 08:46

I called the doc and he said prob an unknown pile because it was bright red.
My tybes are wrapped around my bowel from a post c section infection so would surprise me.
I m tired and sore but ok today.
I had googled novro too and and th0ught maybe a bug.
Didn't want anyone else catching it.
Oh sweet lord it was a dose...and ypu d think i d be a skinny mini today but no lol...bit swollen.

Symptoms sound like campylobacter, so not your ravioli but something you ate 2-5 days ago, possibly up to 10-11 days ago.
Horrific cramps and bloody diarrhoea are very typical.

Halfwreckedbykids · 29/09/2020 09:33

Thanks weedsandseeds, not a hope of remembering what it was so...
Thanks a million everyone...sitting on the couch watching property programmes for a few hours now..bliss. (afraid to eat doubt that ll last long)

That's why it's very difficult to track outbreaks of campylobacter. People falling ill at a spread out rate and can't remember what they ate that far back!

bebarkered · 30/09/2020 23:33

Hi OP. Can you manage to eat a banana? X
