Masks wearing outside ?

I keep seeing people wearing masks outside

Why are people walking around a big open park or field or just the streets ( they are on their own so not walking close contact with others ) wearing a mask?

Been seeing it loads lately . Loads of mask wearing outside , will this become mandatory?

I understand walking on the high street as you are in and out of shops

I'm talking about completely open spaces walls no shops nearby for a while .. just generally walking around a water park in one etc

@AdditionalCharacter not uppity just wondering if people think likely to become mandatory? As at the moment there is nil advice to wear outside but people are . Makes me feel like I should be wearing one outside too but science says otherwise

For me the parks where I live are full
Of joggers who brush past you while panting and blowing. I’ll keep my mask on.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 28/09/2020 18:08

I've been finding they keep your nose and chin nice and warm?

jezmay · 28/09/2020 18:09

@Pachonga who said anything about virtue signalling or being a twat?

I wonder how long this will continue

I prefer to not touch it again - so I put it on at home with clean hands and then don't take it off again until I'm home again.

As an introvert I also really like wearing one so random people (neighbours etc.) don't recognise me and talk to me. Grin A mask and sunglasses was the ideal combination!

Allywill · 28/09/2020 18:12

i wore one outside today walking round the reservoir. reason was it was full of those tiny little flies (midges?) and it stopped them getting in my mouth or up my nose !

jezmay · 28/09/2020 18:13

I am an introvert too and tbh I like wearing masks but I find it a communication barrier with my toddler

I wear mine if I'm planning going to shop to shop or if its a bit busy sometimes you can't socially distance, it's not going to be mandatory just personal preference really, and not a huge deal.

Worrysaboutalot · 28/09/2020 18:14

I wear mine whilst on the school run, as I am immune supressed and don't want to pick up any bugs, not just Covid.

Plus I am feeling fairly antisocial atm and the mask stops school acquaintances asking me questions about my powerchair.

I find they make my skin breakout Sad

What a weird question. It’s because people are worried. And the worse thing we can do is take the mask on and off (hands touching face) every time they see someone. Far more pragmatic to put mask on once then Rash hands and take off!

teablanket · 28/09/2020 18:16

If I go somewhere that requires a mask I tend to keep it on until I get home. Not particularly arsed if people think I want to be seen wearing one. Hmm

theviewfromhalfwaydown · 28/09/2020 18:17

I have seen people walking about on their own with them too but never thought much of it. People driving in cars on their own wearing masks confuses me though.

Aragog · 28/09/2020 18:23

I wear my masks outside if going in and out of places a lot, or if the area is busy.

I also wear a mask outdoors in the playground (I teach) during drop off and pick up as there a lot for parents milling around as well as children in close contact.

MrsClatterbuck · 28/09/2020 18:23

Saw a couple out walking on shore front yesterday wearing masks. No social distancing so I assume they were from one household. Beach and sea one side grass bank the other then road. Very wide path at least 10 feet. Though maybe they were heading for nearby hotel so didn't want to handle masks too much.

Fairybatman · 28/09/2020 18:26

When it’s taken ages to get the stupid thing comfortable, and sorted so that my glasses aren’t steamed up I do t want to take it off again if I’m on my way somewhere else where I’ll need it again.

Once it’s on I can wear it for hours, but getting it right is an absolute PITA.

barskits · 28/09/2020 18:26

I can barely tolerate one on my face for the relatively short time I'm actually in a shop. It would drive me insane if I had to wear it everywhere.

Stinkyguineapig · 28/09/2020 18:29

I wear mine outside between shops and when I get off the train i often stop in a shop to buy a drink /lunch and keep it on until I get to work.
Like pp said if I was going out for a walk in the country I wouldnt put it on, but wore it at a busy outdoor market recently.

earthyfire · 28/09/2020 18:31

Our school insist parents wear a mask when entering the school playground, it's the only time I wear one outside. I find them difficult to wear for very long so I wouldn't choose to wear them outside unless I was in a queue or had to be close to people I didn't know.

Pickypolly · 28/09/2020 18:36

I don’t wear one while out at all.

Today on the way back from the school run, a mum & daughter came towards me on the pavement, both wearing masks. Child about 9.

The mother..I kid you not, said “oh, move back, move back loudly and then dramatically swept her arm in front of the girl, corralled her into the middle of the road and walked in a huge arc around me.
There was them & me on an average pavement on the street.
They were on their way to school, to take the child to a school FULL of kids!

I was a bit gobsmacked by the OTT nature of this.

jezmay · 28/09/2020 18:48

@barskits I know I feel the same that's why I was starting to get worried seeing loads of people walking outside with them

@Pickypolly gosh its like they have been brainwashed . I personally think masks should only be worn in close contact situations obviously the government are now saying in shops and other indoor places so ok fair enough .. but outside it's just ridiculous . Some people are going over the top and seem to be enjoying it

I think that’s a little bit OTT. I don’t know anyone who is having a great laugh and enjoying wearing a mask! People are just doing their best. And some people feel more comfortable wearing them while they’re out in more open areas. I don’t think it’s really an area of concern?
