To have asked for another room?

I'm travelling on my own and staying in a Premier Inn. I've stayed with them loads and they're usually fantastic.

Today though I was made to feel like I was being unreasonable. I checked in and went to my room. It's super dark because there's film on the windows because there's scaffolding right outside of the window. If I have the window open, they can see in, including the bathroom.

I'm not usually picky and have stayed in some real dives but I'm so uncomfortable with a bunch of strange men being literally two feet away.

I have some abuse in my past and I'm not sure if I'm being unreasonable because of it.

I'd ring down and ask or go to reception and see if they have any other rooms free.

CreamCabbages · 28/09/2020 17:29

So long as you didn’t know this at the time of booking, or agree to a discounted room rate, there is nothing unreasonable about asking.

emptyshelvesagain · 28/09/2020 17:30

Today though I was made to feel like I was being unreasonable.

How were you made to feel like that?

JaJaDingDong · 28/09/2020 17:31

I think I'd feel the same, if the men will be there the same time as you, and if it makes the room too dark.

QuestionableMouse · 28/09/2020 17:31

Sorry I should have been clearer.

I've asked and been told there are no rooms free for tonight but the woman on reception couldn't understand why I was asking which is why I started to doubt myself!

Not at all. You’ll end up waking up to male voices as soon as the day starts. That’s in no way relaxing.

QuestionableMouse · 28/09/2020 17:33

The receptionist kept saying "but there's privacy film on the glass, they can't see in" and "but you'll be out all day so you'll hardly notice them."

Are there people working on the scaffolding this late?

Don't you shut the door when using the bathroom?

(Not saying you shouldn't have asked to move)

Of course she understands, she just wants to make you doubt yourself. You can be sure she wouldn’t like it, if she was in the same position.

There was a fella crouching where the bag is when I first opened the window.

If it affects your night's rest, which I would imagine it will, then request a refund under the Good Night Guarantee.

There are no other rooms free at all tonight? That surprises me given the current situation with restricted movements for so many people. Could you steel yourself to ask reception again to confirm that?

DeliciouslyFemale · 28/09/2020 17:38

Holy shit! That’s ridiculous! I couldn’t relax. As for the comment that you’ll be out wall day, what shit! I often go back to the hotel for my youngest to rest. It’s not a bloody B&B where you’re supposed to make yourself scarce.

QuestionableMouse · 28/09/2020 17:42

No rooms at all apparently, confirmed by two receptionists.

I know. Was hoping to chill out and relax and get some writing done but I can't see that happening.

I honestly wish I'd stayed at home.

Check online, OP and see if there are any rooms available. If they come up as free, go down to the foyer and ask a friend to phone up and try to book a room. Then ask the receptionist why she lied.

Brashopper · 28/09/2020 17:45

Their website says

“ If you have any concerns with your room location ask if a replacement is possible”

You have concerns and have asked for a replacement room. You shouldn’t be made to feel unreasonable when you are just following their policy.
That page also has a bit about “single female travellers.”

I hope they find you a more suitable room.

Okaro · 28/09/2020 17:45

Was you told beforehand about the work being done to the hotel?

For what it’s worth I would not be happy with this. If no other rooms were available I would want a large discount.

ImSleepingBeauty · 28/09/2020 17:46

Could be that once you’d entered the room it would have had to be cleaned again to make it ‘Covid secure’ for the next person. This may be why they were trying to put you off.
Tbh I wouldn’t like it but I’d put up with it for one night. If my stay was any longer I’d either ask to be moved or use the ‘good night guarantee’ for a refund if they were noisy.

Okaro · 28/09/2020 17:46

Also phone reception pretending to be someone else and see if they have any rooms available! Grin

Exactly what I was about to suggest. Really surprised there is not one room free with lots of local lockdowns preventing travel.
Dailyhandtowelwash · 28/09/2020 17:49

Definitely claim a refund. They have hidden it away rather well on their website now but contact Customer Services and request your money back under the Quiet Night Guarantee.

Are they genuinely totally full? That's pretty amazing. I have a Premier Inn booking I need to move at a major airport, and they had availability every single day for the next month when I looked earlier.

QuestionableMouse · 28/09/2020 17:51

It isn't coming up on the search so I do believe they're actually full. There's a bit on the booking page about the work but it doesn't mention that you might get a view of scaffolding and a builder's arse.

OP posts:
SmellsLikeFeet · 28/09/2020 17:51

in my opinion they shouldn't be letting those rooms
Go and complain again

Ooh yes, please try this, will be interesting to see...
QuestionableMouse · 28/09/2020 17:54

They're also breaking their own lone traveller policy as I'm in the last room though a maze of hallways.
