To have asked for another room?

I'm travelling on my own and staying in a Premier Inn. I've stayed with them loads and they're usually fantastic.

Today though I was made to feel like I was being unreasonable. I checked in and went to my room. It's super dark because there's film on the windows because there's scaffolding right outside of the window. If I have the window open, they can see in, including the bathroom.

I'm not usually picky and have stayed in some real dives but I'm so uncomfortable with a bunch of strange men being literally two feet away.

I have some abuse in my past and I'm not sure if I'm being unreasonable because of it.

The Premier Inn website should bring it up but say that it's full. I think... It shouldn't ignore its existence!

SummerHouse · 28/09/2020 17:58

Yeah that's not fair. I never complain about anything but for this, I would make an exception. And the attitude of the staff so far would spur me right on.

They are normally good so this is not the ethos they are aiming for in staff. A receptionist asked if my friend had a good night's sleep and she said she hardly slept at all. She thought it was just polite conversation till they offered an unprompted full refund.

Just looked properly and it is coming up as sold out.

I’ll bet there’s probably been half a dozen people before you shown to the same room who’ve also (successfully) asked for a room change. The receptionist may be more assertive with making you take the room as you’re a woman on your own. That’s the reality unfortunately.

SummerHouse · 28/09/2020 18:04

Could you be moved to another hotel. Or full refund and home? As a company showing off affiliation with Suzie Lamplugh Trust they should not be inferring that there's nothing to complain about and they should be doing everything to make this right for you.

Lipz · 28/09/2020 18:07

Check other booking sites, the likes of booking. Com etc as hotels sell a certain amount of rooms to agents.

That's not acceptable, you should have been informed of that level of work and lack of privacy.

You can say to the receptionist that you will be in your room and you need it not to have building work noise.

You can ask them to find you another hotel if they have no rooms and you weren't informed of this level of work going on.

QuestionableMouse · 28/09/2020 18:09

Its a two hour drive home and I have stuff booked for tomorrow so I don't want to do that.

They are actually sold out so no rooms according to the website. I'll trust the process tonight but I'm not staying in this room until Sunday.

There's not another Premier Inn in this town.

OP posts:
Mentounasc · 28/09/2020 18:10

Absolutely unacceptable that you were given that room without explicit warning if the scaffolding, and doubly so as a lone woman.
Some years back DH and I were given a room with scaffolding outside and we asked to swap to the other side, thankfully It worked out easily. It's obviously more tricky if the hotel is genuinely booked out, but they should be doing their level best to find a better solution for you, not feigning surprise that you're dissatisfied.

JaJaDingDong · 28/09/2020 18:13

@QuestionableMouse

They're also breaking their own lone traveller policy as I'm in the last room though a maze of hallways.
We were at a Premier Inn last night, and a different one the night before.

Neither meet the majority of those promises.

im5050 · 28/09/2020 18:15

Don’t premier inn guarantee a good nights sleep 😴
I would make a complaint tomorrow
And your not being fussy I’ve changed rooms in hotels loads of times sometimes for the most stupid reasons 😂

MayIJustAsk · 28/09/2020 18:17

Oh god no I'd stay elsewhere

oreshina · 28/09/2020 18:20

I wouldn’t like this if staying alone on business. It’s a bit intrusive and why should you make do with a dingy room. I would request another room or a discount as compensation.

HowFastIsTooFast · 28/09/2020 18:21

Premier Inn have a no questions asked good nights sleep guarantee. Invoke it tomorrow and get your money back. You're not being unreasonable.

QuestionableMouse · 28/09/2020 18:26

Thanks everyone. I feel better now!

Plan is to insist on a new room tomorrow. If the hotel staff won't help I'll ring customer services and see what they can do.

I'm also going to ask for a refund for tonight I think, because I can't really relax as I don't want to unpack everything just to repack in the morning!

cakewench · 28/09/2020 18:50

OP if you don't have success tomorrow you should try contacting them on one of their social media accounts, like Twitter. Ask at reception in the morning about changing your room so they know you still want to move, they should be able to accomodate you once they have had people check out (depending on what their current room turnover policy is ofc).

Sorry btw Flowers I'd be upset too.

Peachez · 28/09/2020 18:51

@DeliciouslyFemale

Not at all. You’ll end up waking up to male voices as soon as the day starts. That’s in no way relaxing.
This is not unreasonable, abuse in your past or not. They should have warned you in advance. Go to reception and don't ask - tell them, to move you. No other room available? Too bad, they need to find you another place to stay and they are picking up the tab for the difference. Putting up with this sh1t isn't on.
QuestionableMouse · 28/09/2020 18:51

Good idea. I'm on twitter and have had luck there before.

I feel so isolated too - usually you can look at at the scenery but not in this room 😔

OP posts:
emptyshelvesagain · 28/09/2020 19:34

It usually says on the website when you book if there are works planned for the time of your stay. YANBU to want to be moved though.

QuestionableMouse · 29/09/2020 08:31

The builders have been outside for about an hour. It's so loud they feel like they're in the room with me. Totally fucking rubbish.

OP posts:
Cheetahfajita · 29/09/2020 08:35

Tell them you're claiming on their good night sleep policy and they won't charge you. Then ask for the manager and get moved today.

QuestionableMouse · 29/09/2020 08:42

Oh I totally am. I'm feeling very tetchy right now! I've no chance of getting any work done with the noise.

OP posts:
CutToChase · 29/09/2020 11:13

Did you get a new room?

emptyshelvesagain · 29/09/2020 13:12

Did you have a problem with a PI room just a few weeks back as well?

DimidDavilby · 29/09/2020 13:15

Outrageous! They shouldn't be letting that room at all.
