Conspiracy theory?.. You decide!

First of all, I'm surprised mumsnet haven't got a conspiracy theories board. I'm not one to believe in conspiracy theories generally, although I'm sure there is some truth in some with the government/those in power shielding us from some information for some reason. However, something strange happened last night and some people are not sure about the explanation that's been given.

So, yesterday evening, across Leeds (where I am) and also West and South Yorkshire, maybe even further afield, 'lines' in the sky appeared. Jet trails, presumably, as it was a still and fairly clear night. But... three of the lines were parallel lines, equally spaced apart, of equal thicknesd. It looked strange. Our local Facebook group was full of pictures and suggestions of aliens & a military operation were discussed.

A short while later, local weatherman Jon Mitchell tweeted

"To all of you noticing the three aircraft contrails over the moon tonight, it was three @AerLingus aircraft flying into #Dublin from #Berlin #Düsseldorf and #Munich. Nothing really unusual but nicely lit by the moon."

He shared a clip of the three flights flying across Yorkshire & Lancashire, one after the other, following perfectly parallel.

Some people agree with this explanation. However, others are dubious as to how the contrails are so perfectly in line and doubt this explanation.

I've deliberately not put my stance on this in my post. I'd like to see mumsnet users opinions.

YABU: three Aer Lingus flights quite clearly left those contrails

YANBU: there's definitely something fishy going on

Thickness not thicknesd. Doh!

What else could it be then?

But no I don’t personally believe in the chemtrail type nonsense.

gwenneh · 28/09/2020 17:34

Have you never seen a contrail like that before, OP? It's usually from a plane flying at an angle, one from the main body of the plane and two from the wings.

Either way, created by a perfectly ordinary flight.

Titterofwit · 28/09/2020 17:36

But dont aircraft have corridors they must fly in? And if they are all heading for Dublin surely they must be in the same corridor from a given point on their respective journeys.
I dont hold with the contrail /chemtrail nonsense either. Its just something that is usually unnoticed but the bright moon and vapour trail lines coincidence makes it more obvious thats all.

Thisisnotnormal69 · 28/09/2020 17:37

But wouldn’t they be perfectly parallel if it’s from aircraft (which it clearly is). Otherwise I’d be bit worried that the aircraft was wonky Grin

iklboo · 28/09/2020 17:42

The trails might not actually be that physically close together - it might well be an optical illusion making them seem very close together and perfectly parallel.

NachoNachoMan · 28/09/2020 17:48

Oh I completely believe that it's contrails from three planes. My normally sensible, rational husband thinks there must be something more that's not being said. I wanted to show him the posts on this thread that he's quite clearly being deluded 😂

They used to be called vapour trails.

kerrymucklowe2020 · 28/09/2020 17:57

It was created by three aer Lingus flights - there's an explanation on a ( yapp?) Facebook group

CurlyhairedAssassin · 28/09/2020 18:05

I wondered if it could be 3 military jets together. If there was a conspiracy it would be that they were trying to hide the fact by saying they were Aer Lingus planes. People panic when they see military jets in formation, don't they.

gwenneh · 28/09/2020 18:14

The three tiny, parallel lines are from one plane. The other, softer and more smudged contrails are from the other flights being discussed.

Komacho · 28/09/2020 18:16

Anyone who sees fairly normal contrails and jumps to the conclusions that it's aliens or some kind of conspiracy mist be desperate for some excitement in their life.

BlusteryShowers · 28/09/2020 18:17

My first thought would have been military but that's because I live in Cumbria and there are quite often jets out practising, so it wouldn't be out of the ordinary really.

The Aer Lingus explanation is the most likely though.

Yes, I think that's the main 'conspiracy' rather than aliens 😉

Although aliens over the north wouldn't be the strangest of things to happen in 2020... 👽
