Little Mix's new show and putting a male down.

Hi,
I'm going to try and explain this the best way I can.
So Little Mix have a new show out- Little Mix: The Search, I think it's called.
It's very much like X Factor.
I watched the first episode last night and they were searching for male singers to form a boyband.

Anyway, they put some males through and out comes a 16 year old male to audition with a great voice (as most of them had).
This 16 year old did look young but what Little Mix said I feel could really knock his esteem if he was to watch it back.

Little Mix put through some older looking males and they didn't put this male through, which is fine of course. The thing that irked me is when he left, one of the members (I think it was Perry) said something along the lines of "he didn't have the look, the others look like proper men", bear in mind some of these males also put through were around 16.

I know it's a minor thing to be unreasonable about, but it just made me think how that 16 year old would feel hearing that said when he watches it back

I would love to hope that anyone fool enough to go on that sort of show has a very robust self esteem. In fact anyone who wants to try to be famous needs an incredibly tough hide.

With a bit of luck the rejected singer will have had sufficient publicity that he can forge a decent career (if he wants) without having to go on shite talent shows.

These shows are fairly brutal to contestants - have you never seen shows like this before?

Worse is said to the average person on the internet daily.

ironic to hear that from her. She may as well have been replaced by a different person shes so unrecognisable compared to a few years ago. But it doesnt take measures that extreme to slightly change an image.

Saying Little Mix are musically talented is like saying Mrs Browns Boys is a comedy. I appreciate Sunday evening tv can be limited but you could just read a book or do something else instead?

Ironic that a group one of whose members has spoken about mental health (the only useful contribution they have ever made) then want to do such a show.

It’s a very tough industry, if he can’t cope with negative comments like that then it’s not the industry for him, same as modelling, it can be brutal (speaking from experience) you need to take things on the chin and accept you don’t have the look they are looking for and move on.

Little Mix have really been put through the mill with all the horrible comments about themselves, especially Jesy Nelson regarding her body size. I actually think she is beautiful to look at.

However they are making television and programmes like this are always going to be controversial or they would not get the viewing figures !

x2boys · 28/09/2020 15:54

I have heard Simon Cowell say similar to be fair ,and look at the Susan Boyle audition every one mocked untill she sang .

“Saying Little Mix are musically talented is like saying Mrs Browns Boys is a comedy.“

Assuming you don’t live Mrs Browns Boys - this is very, very mistaken.

aintnothinbutagstring · 28/09/2020 16:23

Hmm well they've obviously been under a rock the last few years if they think boy band members need to look 'manly', I mean look at BTS who wear makeup, earrings and are quite flamboyant dressers 🤷 yet still seem to attract millions of girl fans.
