People with kids who insist on using the adult only pool

I have 2 kids myself, grown up, so I have been a parent on holiday too.. 8 pools in the hotel, including special kids pools.. Children welcome and catered for at 7 of those... But people insist on using (with kids) the one pool officially designated for adults and designed to be quiet... The "relax pool". Not relaxing with children screaming and splashing.

AIBU to think it's slightly selfish behaviour on their part?

Yes it is selfish. They’ve decided they don’t want to sit with other people’s children but that other people without children should put up with theirs.

Lots of reasons for adults using any pool they want with children in an hotel they have paid for.

If you don't like it there are plenty of adults only hotels to stay in.

I holiday with and without children and can see both sides of the argument but understand why adults with children do what they want when they have paid the same money as you. Sorry.

So if a couple of blokes decide they want to go into the kiddy pool, even if they have kids, that’s ok?

If decide to sit drinking alcohol and tell dirty jokes, beside your children in the kiddy pool, that’s ok?

After all, we’ve paid for the same holiday.

Unfortunately some parents just don’t care at all.

I HATE it when parents let their potatoes sit in the hot tub at my gym. It specifically says 'Adults Only'. You chose to have kids, go sit in Pizza. Hut and enjoy the screaming and let the adults without kids relax.

I once witnessed a fantastic pool flounce. Once a month, there was lifeguard training, which took half the pool... Which was usually lanes. So the lane swimmers had to use the other half, which was the family swim. Children up to a certain level were only allowed in the shallow end, so the 4/5 families were in an area of 8 by 8 m, leaving the other 17m by 8m rather empty. First few 'lane' swimmers just avoided the shallow end. Then two turned up, tried to insist themanager put a proper lane in, then stormed out when they refused. There were multiple swimming only sessions daily, but only five family sessions a week.

Actually, it's irrelevant that you've paid money. You are only allowed to go where the hotel has allowed you to be. If they've designated one pool as no kids, then they are entitled to do that and your kids are not entitled to be in there.

It's exactly the same as with bars. And of course, you may have paid money, but that doesn't entitle you to anything other than what the hotel has chosen to make available to adults or kids.

Parent of 4 here, you are most definitely NOT being unreasonable. This kind of thing gets on my nerves, same as non parents using parent and child parking. Keep to the bits that are actually relevant to you and we'll all be happy!

OP - HELL YES! My local pool has an incredible kids pool, it's massive, full of floats, a giant slide, enough room for older kids to properly swim. However selfish parents drag their kids to the big adult pool so when I'm trying to get my lengths in, they're splashing around, jumping in and missing my head by an inch and crossing across the lanes not even bothering to look. It boils my piss! Staff say bugger all and the neither do the parents.

I do it kindly, but I do do it. In general, so long as I'm obviously just letting them know the right thing to do and not having a go, it's fine.

Me too and the world would be a better place if the parents could let us do that. It teaches them that everyone is different with different boundaries, expectations etc. Can you imagine a world where that is the norm again instead of a violation of some sort....sigh

I'm a bit confused about people saying they'd tell the children off, no tell their parents off. It's the parents who have chosen to take the children there.
I'm glad the lifeguard told them to leave. Hopefully he'll be on duty a lot.

I will sometimes tell off children if they are doing something they shouldn’t.
I remember at a pool asking a child in the Jacuzzi how old she was. When she answered that she was 8, I asked her if she could read. She said she could. So I said “Can you read that sign that says children under 16 are not allowed in the Jacuzzi”?

Lovely to see there are still some reasonable people in the world. I'm tempted to despair at.times. But you have helped. Just don't ask me about other nationalities refusing to socially distance in the lifts. Enough said.

Go to Adult Only hotels then. Personally I can't wait for Adult Only flights too. Being on a four hour flight with a screaming toddler is no joke.

It would piss me off - but then again, defintely not as much as the grown adult that repeatedly took a shit in each and every one of the four pools at the last hotel we stayed at!

Why don't they schedule a kid time for the adult pool like 5-6:30 with a licensed lifeguard. That way one parent watches their kid at pool while the other makes dinner in quiet bliss.

The problem with resorts is that they don't consult people how kids think. Most kids would like a kid friendly jacuzzi because they have no fat on their little bodies and get cold. Also, turning a pool into a mini waterpark with a mini snack bar with sliders and colorful unicorn poop drinks would keep most kids from the boring adult lap pool. Come on people, we're adults. We can figure this s#%t out!
