Do you tip your hairdresser?

I have a hair appointment next week and am a bit nervous as I haven’t been to the hairdressers in a few years. Just wondering do people tip their hairdressers? And how much?

I used to, but I so rarely carry cash these days, and even the machines that let you add tips often just put them all together rather than the actual person who you're tipping getting the money, so I don't see the point. I pay quite a bit to get my hair done though, as there aren't many salons near me to choose from! So I feel like I need a mortgage anyway, without tipping!

Used to when it was somewhere not very expensive and i loved my hairdresser. Still have a good hairdresser but it's more expensive so i don't tip.

No I don’t tip the hairdresser. They are working in a profession and I would no more tip my hairdresser than I would tip my lawyer, my accountant or my gardener.

I don’t tip the junior either, they are no more lowly paid than someone of the same age working in the supermarket and I don’t tip the checkout staff either.

In the interests of full disclosure I always get an appointment and got one the day they opened after lockdown

Yes 10 per cent and that goes for beauty therapists too. When you are planning what to have done always factor in the tip.

If you're not sure you can afford your hair, ask your hairdresser about more affordable options and they can advise.

As Jay Z says - "if you can't afford it twice, you can't afford it."

usually £5 .I used to go to a more expensive hairdresser where I didn't though.

10% - usually £200-275 every 8 weeks in theory.

I live in Norway, and I don't tip my hairdresser, or anyone for that matter. We don't have a tipping culture in my country.
