To think corporate wardrobe is over

Just that really. I don't see office attire ever coming back after covid.

OP posts:
PigletJohn · 27/09/2020 21:58

Somebody asked me on zoom if I was wearing trousers...

Probably not serious, but I was.

You might need to stand up and fetch something.

I wasn't wearing shoes, though.

YesThisIsMe · 27/09/2020 22:00

I went to the dry cleaners on 17th March - it’s still all in its wrapper. And several pairs of heels are still in my locker in the office.

But as the days get cooler I might crack out a couple of the jackets for WFH. In the event that we go back to the office however we’ve discussed the fact that people might prefer to wear clothes that they can machine wash after each day’s wear, which rules out a lot of suiting.

I do put makeup on though, because sitting looking at my own face on Teams for hours on end is depressing enough as it is.

@Igotthemheavyboobs

I work for one of the big 4 firms and we haven't had to wear office wear for about a year unless meeting with clients.

Our main offices are closed to guests, we have a floor dedicated to meeting rooms and that is as far as they ever go (also pre-covid)

There is no need to be uncomfortable to sit at a desk all day.

So Yanbu op!

This is what I think as I hear my son freeze in school with a blazer but no jumper because all the windows are open! (Covid)

I’m not saying hoodies and joggers - but surely there’s an in between?

OhTheRoses · 27/09/2020 22:08

I did have to have a quiet word with a team member who was coming onto catch up meetings in a onesie Grin. But certainly I doubt I'll be getting out my very smart dresses but my comfy wrap dresses will serve me well.

Couchbettato · 27/09/2020 22:10

DH and I seem to have inadvertantly become nudists whilst working from home.

Been a while since I loaded the washer up though.

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 27/09/2020 22:10

We've been fairly casual for a number of years now but not trackies & hoodies which is my current work attire.
When I went back to the office I wore my dresses & cardies again but I don't work any differently.
I am marginally smarter now I have to do the school run than I was during actual lockdown. Agree on perfume though.
Rumour has it that a colleague was smart on top with v short bright pink shorts on a really long Skype with MP's/SpAds etc and forgot to switch her camera off when they had a break🤣😂

LoveEatYoga · 27/09/2020 22:11

I agree OP

Our (professional) office moved to causal dress about a year ago and now with working from home I can't think when I'll next wear proper casual dress.

To look smart I can just put a suit jacket on top of skinny jeans and a t shirt...

OOAOML · 27/09/2020 22:13

@BeigeFoodLover that's awful - our school have said no blazers or ties (kids clothes are meant to be washed daily) and are being relaxed about uniform. I got mine fleeces as the classrooms are cold.

I packed most of my work dresses away and I think I've only worn tights once or twice since late March.

BogRollBOGOF · 27/09/2020 22:18

Slight tangent, I haven't had to wear work wear for 4 years since I stopped teaching, and I now spend my life in active wear or jeans/ harem pants and top for running around or being around the house. One day last week I thought it was about time I wore something more dressed up for the sake of a change.

I was on the playground for 5 minutes before I was recognised for a drastic change of skirt, tights and boots Grin

Glitterbubbles · 27/09/2020 22:23

Not quite the same, but as a hospital doctor I am absolutely loving wearing scrubs every day and hope we don't have to go back! Also makes it much easier to identify staff/grades as different colours for different levels of seniority.

IfNotNow12 · 27/09/2020 22:25

It's a shame. I love a bit of nice tailoring.
When I was younger I thought that as a grown up I would sashay about in a Vivienne Westwood suit and Rosalind Russell black court shoes being fabulously intimidating. I don't want to slob about in leggings all the time Sad
Also, real clothes tell you when your waistline is expanding. Was a shock to try on a work skirt after 4 months at home..

ChavvySexPond · 27/09/2020 22:25

I would like some similar-ish things to my work clothes but with more stretch. Smile

I'm never ever wearing uncomfortable clothes or shoes ever again.

PontiacBandit · 27/09/2020 22:29

I've definitely started dressing down more, just bought some cosy loungewear, something I'd never do before lockdown. I'll smarten up for the video calls but I'm sat in front of a computer on spreadsheets most of time so what I'm wearing is fairly irrelevant.

ChavvySexPond · 27/09/2020 22:36

Tights can completely do one.

Frownette · 27/09/2020 23:25

@Lockheart I've gone off make up too

OhTheRoses · 27/09/2020 23:28

I really want a new lipstick but there aren't any bloody testers.

AnythingLegalConsidered · 27/09/2020 23:53

My local MAC concession will test stuff on your hand.

DidoLamenting · 27/09/2020 23:56

@letmethinkaboutitfornow

Disagree. I wear it while WFH. It’s professional.
So do I. I work 3 days at home and 2 in the office. I wear the clothes I would wear for work in normal conditions.
DidoLamenting · 28/09/2020 00:01

@PanamaPattie

I shower, do my hair and makeup and dress for work even though I WFH. I change at the end of my shift and close my office door. Work/life balance and all that.
Yes me too. My mental health would crumble if I didn't. I can't bear the thought of slobbing around in casual clothes all the time (not that I actually own anything particularly casual anyway)

I agree, I love tailoring as well. The legal eagle TV series The Split would not have been so successful I’m sure if the cast were in leggings and hoodies, I remember a thread on here everyone admiring Nicola Walkers wardrobe and who could forget Gillian Anderson’s fabulous and much lusted after silk blouses from The Fall!

Oblomov20 · 28/09/2020 01:54

Zara comments are perfect. The split and Gillian's silk blouses have been the best orgasmic tv workwear for years. Grin

Susannahmoody · 28/09/2020 02:17

I have to admit I can't wait to go back downtown and get dressed up! Pencil skirt, heels, oh yeah hello boys

glowworm93 · 28/09/2020 03:22

I quite liked where we were pre lockdown. Workwear was smart but there was flexibility. We had moved away from suits, tights and heels every day (which is how it was when I started work) and you didn't need to get too dressed up if you only had internal meetings. But there was a clear difference between what you wore at home and at work.

I will be sad if workwear disappears completely, I liked that distinction. Also if I'm honest I quite liked having an excuse to dress up! I have two DC under 5 so not much dressing up going on at home...

myapplegreenjumper · 28/09/2020 04:31

Are yet my kids are still required to wear a suit everyday to sixth form. How many women actually wear a matching 2 piece suit to work?

OhTheRoses · 28/09/2020 05:22

How many women wear a polyester blazer and kilt?
