Trending Now - WTAF

Anyone actually looked at these posts and wondered why? My post didn't reach the 'tending now' despite getting hundreds of responses.
Maybe I should go to sleep now and forget all this but can't help feel cheated into thinking this was a nice supportive place.
I guess being autistic is a factor.

Trending now is an automatic algorithm- it has no way of knowing if someone is or is not autistic. It’s based not just on comments but on unique views, dwell time on a thread etc.

I was under the impression that the threads featured in “Trending Now” are the ones most clicked on (i.e. has most views), NOT the ones with the most responses.

To many autistic people, some things are very black and white. My disappointment is from MY perspective, not yours. Is that wrong?
I was just saying that some posts get 'Trending' status' because MN wants them to. Controversial?

Surely as your post got hundreds of responses that’s only a good thing? Lots of engagement. Why would not having it trend somehow negate that?

Really? I didn't know this, just assumed it was the threads with the most responses. The algorithms make more sense though, as a way of keeping 'interesting' or maybe controversial posts in view.

Why would you want 'Trending status' as you put it.

That's not even a thing. It's not like twitter with it's blue ticks. You don't get more 'followers' if you're trending.

Honestly, it's probably a good thing that your post did not end up on 'trending now'. It generally means that there is something salacious or contentious about it which is driving lots of people to click or comment. It's algorithm-driven and not based on anyone cherry-picking certain posts based on the user.

You end up with everyone chiming in irrespective of whether they can contribute anything useful, and if you're extra unlucky the Daily Mail put it on their front page.

Although ironically I found this post through the 'trending now' box!

Mumsnet should have a whole lot more moderators.
How many lives have Mumsnet influenced, for good or bad.
A huge, huge wake up call for me.
Mumsnet, shame on you. People come to you with their problems, the least you can do is moderate. My DS's sites have tons of moderators and quite rightly so. Why? Because they are are minors and vulnerable. Vulnerable? You only think people are vulnerable when it suits you.

Volume, traffic, response are all potential deciders but I'm pretty certain that being autistic is not one of them. How would the algorithm know?
