To be annoyed with mum for letting DS watch TV at 7am?

However the unreasonable part of me is that we gave DS to her at 6am so that we could get some extra kip until 7.30. I have held my tongue, very noble of me, but I do feel a bit mean for feeling annoyed that she turned on tv for him after a while. I suppose she ran out of ways to keep him occupied and she does visit to stay every few weeks or so. But still, TV for a 16-month-old....
Should I say something or continue biting my tongue?

yabu - unless he was watching Hellraiser or similar

choose your arguments carefully is what i say

compo · 10/10/2007 09:54

yabu
she let you have a lie in and you're moaning about half an hour of TV?

belgo · 10/10/2007 09:56

YABU. Just be grateful you get a lie in.

Carmenere · 10/10/2007 09:57

Fay TV is how you get a lie in in the morning. It is our friend. YABU. and ungrateful.

No I think this is reasonable. My trained our children to learn when the clock said 7 and then go downstairs quietly and switch the tv on. That, to us, is desired behaviour though of course it would be nicer if they went downstairs and did their homework or got started on the ironing for me.

But then, mine don't watch loads of tv at other times of the day so I have never minded them watching it for half an hour before I get up.

This must be a wind-up right? Not the tv bit, but the fact that your poor mother was given the child to look after at 6 am!

HotLove · 10/10/2007 10:08

a lot of programmes i think are good for children (maybe not 24/7) my 11 week old loves Bear in big blue house and i see no harm

SpeccieSeccie · 10/10/2007 10:08

I think YANBU. But then, I would say that as I'm not a fan of tv for babies at any time.

I do agree about picking your battles though. If you're happy to let him watch tv at other times then why not 7am?

skidaddle · 10/10/2007 10:09

well I wouldn't like my 16mth old to be watching telly either but a one-off so you can have a lie-in is forgivable, don't you think? I think you were right to hold your tongue but I do sympathise.

elescarybells · 10/10/2007 10:09

your mum lets you have a lie in and you're complaining about her letting him watch tv to keep him occupied whilst you snooze?

1, yabu

2, send your mum to me as i would be eternally grateful.

i dont see anything wrong with letting a child watch tv as long as its not all day and they have other stimulating activites!

i have just had a huge row over keeping sky tv now that the price has gone up coz i dont think i can cope without nick jnr and the disney channel i would never get anything done!

MarshaBrady · 10/10/2007 10:11

YABU
It was very nice of her to get up with your son at 6am.

CappuScreamO · 10/10/2007 10:13

yanbu

of course she should have taken them out at 6am to see the dawn and pick up autumn leaves for a nature picture to present to you as you awoke

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 10/10/2007 10:14

PMSL!

'we gave DS to her at 6am so that we could get some extra kip until 7.30'

And then moan that she let him watch TV.

Classic YABU.

Hulababy · 10/10/2007 10:20

YAB very U!!!!

ScottishMummy · 10/10/2007 10:28

oh for god sake - you are so ungrateful she deserves a bloody big thank you and a wee pressie not getting slagged off on MN. she did u a big favour so grow up

blueshoes · 10/10/2007 10:31

What's wrong with children's telly? Some really good programmes on at that time

OrmIrian · 10/10/2007 10:31

Yes YABU.

What did you really expect her to do at 7 bloody am? Presumably breakfast had been eater, and there's only so many books you can read and it's a bit early on a damp misty morning to be going out for a ramble.

What would you have done?

missyhissey · 10/10/2007 10:33

Yes, sorry you are being unreasonable. If your mum is willing to get up with your child at 6 o'clock you are very lucky, it is not fair to have a go at her for letting him watch a little bit of telly. If you say something to her that might be the last time you get a lie in!

Baffy · 10/10/2007 10:34

really - what's wrong with children's tv??

some of it is ok and my ds has learnt lots of new songs/sign language/rhymes etc from tv

watching tv all day every day is bad - I understand that

but do people really think children watching tv is that bad??

your mum sounds like a star

compo · 10/10/2007 10:34

it's not a windup!! Fay68 is a regular so don' be too offensive!

oliveoil · 10/10/2007 10:34

Little Princess in on at 7am so TV is always on at this time in our house

next time, get some flash cards ready instead
