So I live in a small village which is extremely popular with tourists, for the most part I don't mind. However, I live on the back of the main village carpark. Its hard to explain but the carpark is much higher than my garden so people are literally towering over us.

Occasionally people will park on here with their camper van/R.V and sleep. Its always next to my fucking house and it's starting to drive me loopy, they are literally within touching distance and we hear everything. Some are noisy and some are just plain nosey to the point we have to close our curtains.

We have spoken to the carpark owner and to his credit he does tell them to shift, but when they turn up after he's gone home understandably nothing gets done. I am at my wits end with it, it's bloody creepy, they have a massive carpark to choose from and yet they always go in the space next to my bloody window. AIBU to start telling them to piss off?

They probably feel more secure parking near a house. It's annoying for you but unless you can plant something that's tall enough to block the view I don't think there's anything you can do unfortunately

Install a powerful security light on the side of your house, directed at the area of the car park where you don't want people to park. Turn it on at dusk every night or when someone's parked next to you at night, should deter them and don't think rv curtains are that good and no one wants to try to sleep with bright light shining in. Also will make it more difficult to look in through yr windows.

I think the lights are a good idea, or even just a sign asking people to respect residents and park at the far end of the car park when possible. I think it often doesn't occur to people...

Draculahhh · 26/09/2020 21:33

I do actually really like the idea of the lights, ill look into it. It just baffles me what attracts people to sleep on a grim looking carpark.

I have a three point plan.

Write a history of your village and how many ghostly sightings there have been,,,at the end of the car park. Put a sign up in the car park.

Then, get a mannequin of a mysterious cloaked figure and put it in your garden. Perhaps a dry ice machine.

And crack open your bedroom window and go 'wooooooooooooooooooooooo'.

RandomMess · 26/09/2020 21:54

Can you put trellis up on the car park wall?

I agree the security light will be irritating for them but you may need black out blinds and curtains so it doesn't annoy you Grin

nosswith · 26/09/2020 21:57

I'm with the light idea.

Given quarantine restrictions or the fear of sleeping in a hotel that might not be cleaned, I don't blame anyone for preferring a caravan or motorhome of their own.

Draculahhh · 26/09/2020 22:23

I understand the desire to sleep in your own space, yet they are so close to my house that they are closer than 2m to us.

With regards to the trellis we could put one up, but because our garden is low down compared to the carpark, it wouldn't make a difference without going over the 6ft fence limit iyswim.

Ask the car park to paint no parking zone along your wall

RandomMess · 26/09/2020 22:45

I mean put the trellis up on the car park (with their permission)

tearstainedbakes · 27/09/2020 10:52

Put a sign up (or get the car park owner to put a sign up), saying 'no campers to park overnight along this wall'

Wakemeupwhenthisisover · 27/09/2020 13:29

I think lights are your best bet, you’ve said why would anyone want to sleep in a grotty car park- it can’t be that bad if you have your house there?

EmmaWithTheGreatHair · 27/09/2020 13:36

I think the light’s a great idea!
