Ocado bag refunds

nolongerafan · 26/09/2020 16:26

Minor things in the grand scheme of things.... but now Ocado have started to take bag returns again I was looking forward to a refund for the huge pile I have accumulated since March. Today I returned 80. The refund was capped at the number of bags in my current delivery... so about 10. So no refund for the other 70.

Feels unfair.

Obviously first world problem/have I nothing better to worry about/at least I got deliveries/shop in person and use a hessian sack/you are lucky to get any refund at all given other supermarkets don't give one/ yada yada etc etc

However... given the huge profits they have accumulated during the pandemic, surely they could just honour their previous policy and give a full refund?

Probably being unreasonable, but grrr

Oh I wonder when they changed that rule? They used to let u give back quite a large number. Can't think what the max was but def more than the number of bags u received

ElfDragon · 26/09/2020 16:29

They haven’t been charging for bags (I think) since lockdown (so since they stopped collecting).

If they now refunded you for those bags that you weren’t charged for, they’d basically be paying you for having looked after the bags for a bit...

nolongerafan · 26/09/2020 16:31

Have they not @elfdragon! then I've been huffing and puffing for no reason.

So yep, definitely being unreasonable Grin

Thanks for putting me right

Have they not been charging? I didn’t know they were taking them back. My delivery guy didn’t mention it. I’ve a shit ton.

Needallthesleep · 26/09/2020 16:33

I didn’t realise they had started collecting again, so that’s excellent news! No idea what to do with the current giant pile though.

Aragog · 26/09/2020 16:40

Last weeks delivery man told us they would start taking them from this week - one bag stuffed full of other bags a time.

Wasn't expecting money back as don't think they charged for bags during lock down.

bookgirl1982 · 26/09/2020 16:46

Morrison's refunded me for 25 bags this week, I wasn't expecting it just glad to have slightly fewer at home!

JukeBoxHero · 26/09/2020 17:02

They stopped charging for bags at the start of lockdown.

TingeOfTheGinge · 26/09/2020 17:03

They told me on Tuesday that they could take up to 99. I said I would get some ready for this week

SheepandCow · 26/09/2020 17:05

I use mine as bin liners.

You can donate spare bags to charity shops, food banks, or refuges.

RogueV · 26/09/2020 17:06

They stopped charging for bags muppet

MJMG2015 · 26/09/2020 17:07

I sort of had the same thought. I gave him a HUGE backfull & got credited for a handful. I thought 'it would have been better to just hang a few back each week'.

Then gave my head a proper wobble!!

It's pennies & not worth another thought!

Glad to be rid of them tbh. I'd PAY them to take away the other supermarket ones!! 🤣

QueenArnica · 26/09/2020 17:20

My Ocado driver told me this morning that they can take 99 bags back per customer each time as that’s what the machine goes up to...

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 26/09/2020 17:24

They took a load from us, but didn’t refund them all. As a pp said, I don’t think they charged throughout lockdown so I’m glad to get them out of the kitchen cupboard.

Duggeehugs82 · 26/09/2020 17:27

They definitely didnt charge through lockdown i remember looking, ive got a utility room full of bags! I know they take 99 but i thought we need to fold to save space and just cannot be bothered to sort them out!

LaurieFairyCake · 26/09/2020 17:27

I wonder when they stopped charging as I'm pretty sure I've got loads from before that

I think I will just write it off

TweetUsOnFacebook · 26/09/2020 17:34

I'm just glad they're taking them back again. Couldn't be bothered less about any refund.

Pumpkinnose · 26/09/2020 17:36

100 max at a time. They didn’t charge during lockdown. Obvs a bit annoying from the pre Lockdown bags I paid for! But then I tho k their new M+S range a rip off so I think it’s all just ridiculously bad value

SoupDragon · 26/09/2020 17:38

I think the email said that they stopped charging in March and would refund you only the amount in your last delivery. Which seems fair enough.

I spent a happy hour or so folding mine into "samosas" so I could fit about half my collection into the one outer bag they will take 😂😂 It was oddly satisfying.

trollopolis · 26/09/2020 17:47

Damn - and I was hoping to pay for a whole order with my pile!

I expect we'll be able to return them over time, just not a flood of them all at once

NotTodayDear · 26/09/2020 18:18

I’m getting rid of a bagful each week. I’ve been keeping them in the garage and I’ve got a whole binliner full. I’ll just be glad to have them gone and recycled to be honest.

CrepuscularCritter · 26/09/2020 19:01

I'm with SoupDragon; origami of the bags was strangely satisfying yesterday.

nolongerafan · 27/09/2020 08:54

@RogueV sorry @ElfDragon got there first. A tad more politely.

RTFT you muppet Wink

@nolongerafan

Glad you didn’t take offence at that.

I’ve been folding mine for collection tomorrow . Can’t wait to stop having a cupboard overflowing with bags .
