Secret Santa

I know, I know. It's not even October yet but I'm trying to be organised.

In my family, we do Secret Santa between myself, my siblings and our spouses. I'm in charge of organising via a website. We set up exclusions so we can't draw our own partners to make it more interesting.

Now, the dilemma. I've seen something that would be perfect for one particular participant. So, WIBU to "fix" the names draw so I get this person? I could do this via the exclusion option.

Technically yes YABU. But I’ve done it before. The recipient gets a gift they love, you get an easier present buying experience. Win/win!

Exactly my thinking.

Thank you.

Can I also just commend your commitment to the ‘secret’ness of Secret Santa by name changing for this post Grin

Hadjab · 25/09/2020 13:41

Totally - I did this for my last work one, I made sure I didn't get my bitchy boss and she didn't get me.

SecretSantaFix2020 · 25/09/2020 13:42

I wouldn't be surprised if my SIL is on here and I've recently posted something outing under my usual name. 🤣🤣

Shameless bump for more opinions.

YABU it's cheating. Can't abide cheats

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 25/09/2020 17:49

Yanbu. I’d do it! I’ve actually swapped work ones before for similar reasons.

StitchInTimeSavesNine · 25/09/2020 17:50

I think it's a win win situation too.

1questionshootout · 25/09/2020 17:53

Go for it.

TulipsandDa1s1es · 25/09/2020 18:00

go for it. youre doing it with the best intentions. think of it as a perk for your hard work of organising it all

Barton10 · 25/09/2020 18:01

Yes I would a friend did this for me at my work one.

Bit extreme. I think cheating would be making sure I don't get someone who is notoriously difficult to buy for, as that's unfair on the others. But I do take your opinion on board. Thank you.
OP posts:
Leeds2 · 25/09/2020 18:25

I'd do it, without a second thought.

ChalkDinosaur · 25/09/2020 18:26

I've done it.

myhobbyisouting · 25/09/2020 19:25

I don't think it's extreme. It's like being trusted as the banker in monopoly and then slipping an extra £500 out cause, perks 🤷🏽‍♀️

SecretSantaFix2020 · 25/09/2020 19:34

That is literally nothing like it. I'm not stealing, am I?

OP posts:
Charleyhorses · 25/09/2020 19:39

Fuck me. Cheating? Grin. Just to be clear, you organise the ss and want to allocate a person to you because you have found the ideal gift for them? Grin cheating! Mumsnet at its finest.
Crack on love. You know yanbu

myhobbyisouting · 25/09/2020 20:21

Haha, I agree my comments were very "MN at its finest" but if I think someone's fixing something in their favour it makes me want to flip the fucking monopoly board pull out altogether

myhobbyisouting · 25/09/2020 20:22

And yeah, you're stealing Grin

Notthetoothfairy · 25/09/2020 20:32

Just do it.

BessMarvin · 26/09/2020 14:42

I don't really have an issue with your suggestion. But the above would be a side effect of what you're proposing 🤔

SummerHouse · 26/09/2020 14:48

I organise SS. I would do this. And if any family members asked for a particular person for a particular reason, I would sort that. However we have never actually done it thank god as I didn't know about the secret Santa police who have come out in force on this thread.

Nottherealslimshady · 26/09/2020 15:10

Do it. Its win win.

Elizaaa · 26/09/2020 15:35

I'd do it 🤷
