To feel no more worried about getting COVID-19 than anything else?

Just that

I’m not vulnerable. I’m fit and healthy.

It would be a serious challenge if I was very ill because I’m a single parent with no support structure. But that applies to any serious illness.

I’m no more worried about catching Covid 19 than anything else. And seeing as I am not particular worried about contracting anything in particular, it means I’m not worried about contracting Covid. It really doesn’t bother me.

In fact, with Covid one would get a great deal more support than, say, if I got pneumonia.

I’m one else completely lacking the FEAR??!

@Userzzz

I’m not afraid of getting it. The amount of people I know that have cancer and MS.. that’s what I worry about.
If you are worried about MS, are you not concerned about the prospect of Covid causing a huge rise in Parkinsons?

@BatShite I don't know if long term loss of smell or taste is considered long covid, I had assumed not like you had.

To those who are worried at all, not just not fearful but utterly indifferent....is it that you don't care about permanent loss or damage to sense of smell/taste and possible neurological implications of that...or is it that you don't think that will happen to you? Because that is a mild case.

Inkpaperstars · 26/09/2020 17:26

Typo...should say not worried!

Afibtomyboy · 26/09/2020 17:29

Relieved to see the poll results so far. I’m not alone!

Someone I know told me about his partner's long Covid just this week. Sounds pretty grim.

While I am not letting it stop me in my tracks I am worried and try and follow the rules as best I can. A more competent government and better provisions (ie availability of tests etc) would help - no doubt.

But there’s so many awful and horrendous conditions out there with lasting impact and many terminal.
No one wants to get them.
But do I worry about getting them? Sub consciously, yes of course.
On a conscious day to day basis? No
And the same applies to Covid 19

My life as a single mother is about my children, their happiness, their education, my friends, my siblings, finances, my home, my exercise, healthy eating, holiday etc. I don’t suffer from health anxiety hence I don’t include worrying about The many many awful illnesses out there.
And that’s my stance on Covid 19

Not for myself, no, but I do worry about my grown up son who has an artificial heart valve after contracting endocarditis when a teenager. I would rather contract it myself than him, not least because he has a young family now.

@Inkpaperstars

* are you not concerned about the prospect of Covid causing a huge rise in Parkinsons? *

Because I have read one brief article about very early stage research in to a possible link, however you speak very definitively so I’m presuming you’ve uncovered some compelling research?

To me, that's like asking 'are you not terrified of life changing injuries from a car accident because someone took their eyes off their road and ploughed into you?'

I am aware of the consequences of the virus. However, every action in life has a risk, and I just go about my day without worrying about every risk for every action I take, or every possible situation that may occur as a result of someone elses choices. I would go literally insane, anyone would. There has been a huge focus on this virus, rightly so, but cancer could get me tomorrow, and cancer kills more people every year, and I dont fear that. Life is worth more than living in fear of what could be.

tenlittlecygnets · 26/09/2020 17:42

Bully for you, op. Well done. So glad you're not worried about it. 🙄

Porcupineinwaiting · 26/09/2020 17:44

@Afibtomyboy obviously not. But I was ill w classic COVID symptoms and I've got antibodies. Will that do you?

It was a question for goodness sakes!

And a fair one given the times that posters say “I had it xyz”
But turns out they weren't tested And so presuming their cough and headache was Covid 19

OP posts:
Afibtomyboy · 26/09/2020 17:48

Did you manage to get the antibody test privately out of curiosity?

OP posts:
IdkickJilliansass · 26/09/2020 17:49

I did the antibody test as part of an NHS/Zoe survey.

Porcupineinwaiting · 26/09/2020 17:49

Nope, at the COVID recovery clinic.

It's neither of these things. I'm not one for catastrophising and I refuse to live in fear. Bollocks to that.

I can truthfully say, hand on heart, that I have followed and am continuing to follow ALL the guidelines. I've worn a mask since the start of March. I haven't been in a restaurant or pub. Not even seen my own (high risk) mother since Feb. I will isolate if needed (I won't bloody like it but I'll do it). However, what is the point in shitting myself up about catching it? Things are hard enough as it is - if I AM going to catch C19 and be incapacitated for months or even worse, snuff it, then I want to make the most of this limited life.

IdkickJilliansass · 26/09/2020 17:50

🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Porcupineinwaiting · 26/09/2020 17:53

Actually it's a pretty stupid question as tests just weren't available in March, not even for medical staff, unless you were hospitalized. I've had months of people bleating "but you don't know it was COVID do you", esp when I was reporting not getting better (cause long tail COVID wasnt a thing in April). Bored now.

IdkickJilliansass · 26/09/2020 17:57

Your experience has clearly left you very defensive and I’m sorry for that.

Afibtomyboy · 26/09/2020 18:08

@Porcupineinwaiting

Nope, at the COVID recovery clinic.
That’s amazing you were able to access the recovery service and get an antibody test without a positive result.

If not heard about recovery centres until now. I’d thought it was an online support service. But there’s NHS physical premises offering support to people who think they’ve had it?

You’re going to get a quill in your butt OP 😂😂😂

Ibizafun · 26/09/2020 18:12

Are you crazy? As a single parent, forgetting about healthy people like you ending up in hospital on a ventilator, how would you cope with the long term damage that so many people are reporting.. lung damage, chronic fatigue?

IdkickJilliansass · 26/09/2020 18:18

Oh fuck this 🤯😂😂

Afibtomyboy · 26/09/2020 18:20

But that would be the case with hundreds of illnesses! Thousands

How would I cope if I got pancreatic cancer? Spinal tumour? Got hit by a car and sustained life changing injuries

The list is endless......!
