To feel no more worried about getting COVID-19 than anything else?

Just that

I’m not vulnerable. I’m fit and healthy.

It would be a serious challenge if I was very ill because I’m a single parent with no support structure. But that applies to any serious illness.

I’m no more worried about catching Covid 19 than anything else. And seeing as I am not particular worried about contracting anything in particular, it means I’m not worried about contracting Covid. It really doesn’t bother me.

In fact, with Covid one would get a great deal more support than, say, if I got pneumonia.

I’m one else completely lacking the FEAR??!

I suspect DH (40, fit, no health issues, slim) had it - or flu - in February, and it’s the only time to date (20 years or so) I’ve ever been v worried about him health wise. He was shaking violently all night for 5 nights and ill for 2 weeks. I didn’t leave him alone as was so concerned.

We know several people who were in hospital, and three (two who didn’t have it so badly) with ‘long covid’. All under 50 and slim.

Don't think you get more support with LongCovid than with any other illness- the friends I have who have been ill for months have been given next to no support.

I've had pneumonia twice and pleurisy twice: both cleared up quite quickly with antibiotics and I was back on my feet within a month or so. I know at least 4 people who have been ill since March with LongCovid.

As an academic, I am also very aware that this is a version that equally seems to hit young people: they may be spared death but not chronic illness.

I could say "I'm not scared of death" and that might well be true- on the occasions I have been seriously ill I haven't felt that worried. But I am scared at the thought of becoming a burden to my family, of not being able to work, of passing infection onto somebody else who gets hit badly. At least I didn't have to worry about that with pneumonia.

I live in London and know of one person who had Covid and didn't even realise they did. But a mandatory test for work came back positive. No symptoms and no symptoms in their household / social group either

I wear a seatbelt because launching through a windscreen during an rta is preventable.
I vaccinated my kids because getting diphtheria is preventable.
I taught them road safety because getting hurt running across a road is preventable.
I fix my carpet to the stairs properly because falling down the stairs because of a saggy carpet is preventable.
I wear a mask, keep clean hands and follow guidelines because catching covid is preventable.
Yes, there is a risk there that each preventative mitigation may fail but if you could do something to reduce the risk to yourself and others, why wouldn't you?
Not fear but common sense.

I've had it. It was milder than pretty much any other illness I've ever had. I've just had a cold that made me spend a day in bed and a few more days feeling absolutely rubbish. With covid I could easily have carried on as normal (though, obviously, didn't!)

That's not to say others don't suffer. My partner suffered more, my 80yo grandad was in hospital for 2 weeks (but my 80yo gran hardly suffered at all). But I do think a sense of perspective is important, in that for the vast majority of people (EVEN those in vulnerable groups), it is a mild illness that passes without any more issue than a normal virus.
@RepeatSwan with Covid not from Covid. The huge majority were over 85 years old with other Comorbidites.
You should let Chris whitty know there's nothing to worry about after all.

My only concern as a fellow lp is the financial impact. I'm just starting my first period of self isolation due to a colleague testing positive. No idea yet if I'll be paid.

@RepeatSwan I would if I could ;)
