If you could only chose one for the rest of your lives which would it be? Pasta for me all day long 😋

Rice. I always have at least 5 types (long grain, basmati, paella, risotto, pudding) in the house - and sometimes more. Essential stuff - with curries, the aforementioned paella and risotto, various types of rice pudding, with Mexican food, pilafs, kedgeree - and I've yet to start making my own sushi, but I plan to. Love rice!

Anybody want to join me in a demo to bring back equality for all carbs. I think the op is trying to divide the masses.

Potatoes

WooMaWang · 25/09/2020 15:15

@CountFosco

I think gnocchi, vodka and cellophane noodles (made with potato starch) mean that potatoes win. By far the most versitile.

I suppose the contest really should be between potato, rice and wheat in which case wheat wins so you get bread and pasta and couscous and beer.

You can make booze with rice too. Sake, soju, etc.

And noodles.

And dessert.

(I’m feeling like the rice marketing board here).

Potatoes.

WooMaWang · 25/09/2020 15:19

@Rigi

Deal, I use a ridiculous amount of dishes, so lots of washing up, so you may regret that!
That looks delicious.

Are you Korean? It looks like lots of banchan in all those dishes.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 25/09/2020 15:23

Potatoes, then rice, then pasta.

SimplySteveRedux · 25/09/2020 15:25

Potatoes, influenced coz I just had amazing pie, mash and peas with cheese slathered all over it. Yum!

DeRigueurMortis · 25/09/2020 15:26

Potatoes for their versatility:

  • roast
  • boiled
  • mash
  • jacket
  • gnocchi
  • potato cakes
  • potato bread
bellinisurge · 25/09/2020 15:28

Spuds.

CoronaBollox · 25/09/2020 15:28

Like others have said potatoes. Mash, chips, hash browns, dauphinois, potato salad, added to stews, pies, shepherds pie etc cheesy chips, garlic roasted. God I love potatoes.

CoronaBollox · 25/09/2020 15:31

Potatoes would be my choice. Dh would choose pasta....Unfortunately I accidently over-ordered rice so neither of us is going to be happy til we've eaten our way through that. Grin

CatteStreet · 25/09/2020 17:53

Potatoes, but I'd miss pasta (would be able to make gnocchi, though). Not a huge rice fan, though I'll happily eat it and do.

omega3 · 25/09/2020 17:53

From your list, potatoes.

Carbs as a whole - bread all the way!

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 25/09/2020 17:53

I love pasta but think it would have to be potatoes, purely for versatility. However if you asked me to choose between bread and potatoes I may get stuck.

AppleKatie · 25/09/2020 17:53

Potatoes always potatoes

Angelina82 · 25/09/2020 17:54

Anyone else get the impression that Inextremis quite likes a bit of rice or is that just me? Grin

Pasta

SionnachRua · 25/09/2020 17:55

Tough choice between potatoes and pasta but potatoes just wins out. Rice is ok but not a patch on the other two!

OpEd · 25/09/2020 17:55

Pasta, there is literally no competition. 🍝

Angelina82 · 25/09/2020 17:56

It looks like rice is gaining some pace now. Still not caught up with the potato but almost neck and neck with the pasta I reckon!

Titsywoo · 25/09/2020 17:57

A few years ago it would have been pasta but I've gone off it a bit so I would say rice as I eat so many homemade curries nowadays.
