My daughter has just popped to Tesco for a couple of bits and pieces. She’s just sent me a photo of the pasta aisle. The shelves are bare!!
Surely, we’re not having to go through that again. Not being being able to buy a packet of pasta or toilet roll because some people are filling their garages to the rafters with the stuff.
Seriously, there’s no need!!

@PyongyangKipperbang

I bought, as I always do, 24 bog rolls from Aldi, the week of lockdown. Bought a pack of nine at the end of June.

How much shitting do these people do FFS?!

And pasta is sold out but what the hell are they putting it with?

The cheapest passata, which has started going out of stock online...
joystir59 · 25/09/2020 00:52

I added a load of loo roll to this week's online Tesco order to keep ahead of the game and guess what didn't arrive?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 25/09/2020 00:54

@pjmask

Ocado seem to be OK for pasta, I added a pack of 55p penne to Saturdays delivery. Just one, it will get eaten within 10 days not stockpiled!

What most of you fail to realise is this is all it takes. Very few people are "filling their lofts to the rafters" and few did last time. Stop hating each other and research how supply chain to supermarkets works in the U.K

Yes, what you should have done is insist Ocado supplied you with 7/10 of a pack of penne because you refuse to buy more than a week’s worth of pasta at a time.

@SantaClaritaDiet

So please don't attempt to stick any 'moron' or 'selfish' labels on me.

you just said you didn't care what people could say...

Um... I don't care. So don't bother. Is that clearer, Clarita ? 😉
Miljea · 25/09/2020 00:59

@Intelinside57

"It's not on me..." it is you know. This is nothing to do with Brexit, the government etc, it's 100% down to a percentage of the population who are hard of thinking and selfish and don't care that they will leave the elderly and vulnerable unable to get essentials. It's on you if someone who can only afford to shop in small quantities can't buy their essentials, or if an elderly person who can't carry much gets into difficulties. It's all on you.

THE POINT is, I'd've thought, rather obviously, you ain't seen nothing yet.

This is shortages- due to whatever politically loaded name you want to give it- under functioning supply chains.

Brexit will dwarf this.

Miljea · 25/09/2020 01:02

@Viviennemary

I blame the supermarkets. As soon as there was the slightest indication of stockpiling they should have put a stop to it.

Why? They saw an upswing in demand? Why would they stop that? Rather than meet that, with the inevitable delay due to the just-in-time supply chains that deliver our cheap food?

They aren't altruistic charities, you know.

Or... maybe you don't.

Do you have the most basic understanding of market capitalism?

colouringindoors · 25/09/2020 01:06

Supermarkets need to take some responsibility and nip this in the bud.

Well done Morrisons.

Miljea · 25/09/2020 01:07

@CheeseAndOnionIcecream

Oh god. Here we go again. Don't these people ever learn?

What do you mean? 'Ever learn'?

Which side if the fence are you on?

Those that know that our post-Brexit society doesn't give a chuff about anyone other than their own, thus will ensure there's enough to cope with?

Or those who should hang their heads in shame and 'go without'. So that no one, ever, will acknowledge their 'sacrifice' (aka 'lack of foresight, given what went before).

Miljea · 25/09/2020 01:09

@AlwaysLatte

Blimey *@Miljea* go and get a cup of tea or something.

Believe me, I have far more than 'a cup of tea' to fall back on, given this trajectory.

Good luck to you and those that rely on you.

olderwhynotwiser · 25/09/2020 01:11

I hate it when the panic buying starts. I shop for dh and I and also for 89 year old mother in seperate household. No problem until others start panic buying then ...if I have 2 large packs of toilet rolls in the trolley on my once a fortnight big shop I feel as though I'm being judged as a panic buyer. I feel that I really want to shout out at checkout 'listen you lot with your beady eyes on my trolley ...this is one pack for me and one pack for mother...likewise with the 2 lots of laundry products...extra eggs ext ext.' I don't obviously, but it is irritating. People should bear in mind that a lot of people are helping others out and 2 lots of toilet paper isn't always a panic buyer Grin

Miljea · 25/09/2020 01:14

@colouringindoors

Supermarkets need to take some responsibility and nip this in the bud.

Well done Morrisons.

No they don't. Supermarkets are not agents of the state. It's not their responsibility to 'nip this in the bud'.

Morrisons will be trying to steal a moral match on their competitors. For market advantage.

Believe me, once Tesco don't follow suit, nor will they.

Their shareholders won't allow it.

Lifeisabeach09 · 25/09/2020 01:19

Dammit! I need some spaghetti!!

YourWinter · 25/09/2020 01:55

I work in a supermarket and the worst thing in March/April was seeing some of our elderly regular customers pop in for loo rolls, paracetamol and soap, and not being able to get any of them. Unreasonable people will be unreasonable. When restrictions were introduced limiting the number of various items that could be bought, unreasonable people were going to find a way round it and I'm sure they won't have learned to be considerate during this half-year of learning how to live differently.

Giggorata · 25/09/2020 02:08

As I said in the other thread, I really am going to install a bum hose in the loo this time, and use less bog roll.

BatShite · 25/09/2020 02:17

Its pathetic. It really is. No need at all. And extremely selfish actually..90 year old woman in our street was actually crying last time around as she couldnt get loo rolls and certain food thats never been an issue to find before. Had pushed herself tu keep trying shops, and been round loads and still nothing :(

BatShite · 25/09/2020 02:21

Loads seem to not actually realise they are contributing to the problem though, they see everyone else as panic buying, but themselves as just being sensible and getting a 'few' extra things just incase. Have seen this a few times..friends kicking off aboyt having to go to 3 shops before she found loo roll, on a rant because it took so long but then bought a stupid amount but of course it was only because everyone else did and it would make it easier for her in the future, shes nothing at all like those other people buying 4 packs! She certainly does not add to the problem the way they do. Hmm

SuckingDownDarjeeling · 25/09/2020 02:25

Everybody in my circle has a PCP (Pasta Contingency Plan). If you don't have one, then you only have yourself to blame!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 25/09/2020 02:30

Hopefully the supermarkets will respond early this time.
We had the same situation in Australia when this first kicked off and we were out of bog roll for ages in the supermarkets, even with rationing (which took too long to implement), ditto pasta etc.

However, when we had a recent flare up in Victoria, and NSW folk started buying bogroll etc. again amid fears of another lockdown, the supermarkets responded within a couple of days and put the limits back on.

People can't be trusted to have "common" sense, because it isn't common any more and too many people are too fucking selfish these days - so the supermarkets have to "nanny" them by restricting their over-buying.

JuanNil · 25/09/2020 02:33

@Miljea well until the government starts selling food, then we can only really expect responsible behaviour from supermarket chains when it's blatantly obvious that people aren't going to restrain themselves. They had time and money to approach this in a much better way. They were stupid not to, pound signs or not. The first time around, you couldn't blame anybody for the way things unfolded. But now I wouldn't be surprised if there were several law suits started up after this crap is over. They had no excuse not to prepare. Not just supermarkets, but manufacturers and suppliers of 'the essentials'.

LemonTT · 25/09/2020 03:50

I agree others. these panic buying posts need to stop. They are part of the problem, along with a certain newspaper who has been pushing this all week.

Of course this influences the nonsense.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 25/09/2020 04:00

Well, I filled my spare room and freezers a month or so ago so I won’t need to add to the people stripping the shelves, plenty to last until well into next year. Who wants to drag round supermarkets and maybe have to queue in the winter, Tesco delivery will keep me ticking over with fresh stuff.

Suzi888 · 25/09/2020 04:14

Oh not again, just read thisSad so much food was wasted last time. Why are people doing it?! Shops did not shut!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FFS! People are so stupid and selfish.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 25/09/2020 04:32

I always buy bulk and get it delivered, not just now, always, why would I want to drag myself round a supermarket when I can get a good supply delivered. Of course shops are open, it’s just not a pleasant experience, especially at the moment. If I have most of my stock in already then I can just pop to M&S occasionally if want the odd thing. Why would I waste food, most stuff has ages on the BBE date, disposables like kitchen roll and tissues don’t go out of date.

QueenofAsgard · 25/09/2020 06:08

@WanderingMilly

Yes, supermarkets our way have empty shelves. I have been slowly restocking for the past couple of weeks fortunately. My prediction is that things like washing powder and fabric softener will be next....and keep your petrol tanks filled because it will be petrol after that. Don't say I didn't tell you......
What an annoying post Hmm
FippertyGibbett · 25/09/2020 06:28

I filled my petrol tank last time as I thought it would run out.
Then we got locked down so I went no where and the price of petrol dropped 🤣🤣🤣
