My daughter has just popped to Tesco for a couple of bits and pieces. She’s just sent me a photo of the pasta aisle. The shelves are bare!!
Surely, we’re not having to go through that again. Not being being able to buy a packet of pasta or toilet roll because some people are filling their garages to the rafters with the stuff.
Seriously, there’s no need!!

OP posts:

Let them enjoy their pasta and toilet paper. I shall eat olives and wipe my arse with microfibre towels.

TheFairyCaravan · 24/09/2020 22:10

I bought 4 bags of pasta this morning because we're down to our last bag and Aldi don't always have the wholewheat stuff that we like. We usually buy 3 or 4 bags when they do, if we need it.

I, also, bought 24 toilet rolls, flour, beans & tinned tomatoes. I bet people thought we're stockpiling but we're not, we just happen to need it.

Shizzlestix · 24/09/2020 22:11

The act of commenting on an event is not itself causal

Of course it is! People read these posts and decide to drop into the supermarket on the way home from work to get loo roll/pasta ‘just in case’.

Ginkypig · 24/09/2020 22:11

Thanks for this Iv added 40 bags of flour 200 toilet rolls and a baby elephants weight of pasta to my basket, that will keep me going for a few days until I can get my proper shop!

purrswhileheeats · 24/09/2020 22:12

Who the fuck eats pasta these days anyway, I thought everyone was doing keto? Wink

Nellodee · 24/09/2020 22:12

I'm really pleased that I took advantage of the three day window between yeast and bread flour coming back into stock and going out of stock again.

Eve · 24/09/2020 22:15

I bought 10 packets of de Cecco pasta tonight! In Sainsbury’s. Grin

But , it’s on offer at a £1, my husband is Italian it’s his preferred brand , he eats pasta 5 days a week & 2 teen boys are stocking up for uni return.

There was loads on the shelf and my purchases will last a month

OH saw an elderly gentleman on his mobility scooter leave Asda with such a huge pile of toilet rolls he could hardly see where he was going. Tis mad.

hitchhikingghost · 24/09/2020 22:18

Oh you are one of those writing the words ’Stop! Just stop!’ in similar threads for the last two weeks. 🙂 It’s been suggested a few times trolls from a certain newspaper are trying to get a story, when there is no story.

courseaction · 24/09/2020 22:19

Huh? Surely they have t got through the first lot of toilet roll and pasta?

Ontheboardwalk · 24/09/2020 22:20

Oh no Ocado offered me a multi buy offer on toilet roll that I’ve taken up for my weekly shop that I placed well over a week ago

Am I going to be judged by my neighbours and delivery man when 2 instead of 1 9 pack turns up at my door!

SantaClaritaDiet · 24/09/2020 22:20

I wonder how some people will cope when they pop to the supermarkets the day they reopen after Christmas. Grin

I have a vision of supermarket staff armed with tranquilizer darts ready to stop the chaos.

user1471462428 · 24/09/2020 22:20

Maybe the shelf stackers are just being lazy bastards? Grin

Therollockingrogue · 24/09/2020 22:20

You’re causing it OP!!!
You tell us all there’s a pasta shortage so then everyone rushes out to buy some!

Lozz22 · 24/09/2020 22:22

@Darkdecent My Partner is too. He delivered toilet rolls tonight

hitchhikingghost · 24/09/2020 22:22

The only one adding to the problem here is you. And I am pretty sure you know it. 🤷‍♀️

Elsewyre · 24/09/2020 22:23

Threads like these really dont help as all the high and mighty "panic buyers are stupid types" go and pick up a pack "before the panic buyers get them all".

One thing I noticed is fresh and frozen veg never seems to get panic bought

Dawnlassie · 24/09/2020 22:24

Supermarkets to blame in my opinion. Yes people are fucking retarded but it was obviously going to happen again. Very easy to set up computer software to prevent excessive purchasing. They should not have let it happen the second time.

BumholeJ · 24/09/2020 22:25

@Tanfastic “bog standard lasagna sheets”... What is this I hear? A pasta product that doubles as loo roll???

strawbmilk · 24/09/2020 22:26

@00100001

There was some one in my local FB page had bought 4 trolleys full of nappies. Yes. 4 entire large trolleys filled to the brim with nappies.

The supermarket let them, so who's to blame? 🤷‍♀️

Baby will probably grow out of that size before they are used
Glitteryone · 24/09/2020 22:26

Yes it’s fucking ridiculous! My local Asda had no hand wash or wraps tonight (the only two things I popped in for).

The shelves generally looked bare all over.

ArcheryAnnie · 24/09/2020 22:27

I was in a (London) supermarket this afternoon, and there was plenty of everything, including pasta and loo roll, on the shelves.

SantaClaritaDiet · 24/09/2020 22:29

My local supermarkets are empty of clients, but shelves are full.

All we need to change that is a similar thread on a local group, but wisely they are banned there. It's a miracle solution to any panic buying, and seems to be working quite well. Grin

I have also checked again the delivery slots: all available every single day, apart from Waitrose who is near full Saturday but full availability every other day.

I am South East, commuter town, hardly in the middle of nowhere either.

Legoandloldolls · 24/09/2020 22:30

It's not the case here yet.

Who could ever have predicted this possibility during, erm, you know, the EXACT same pandemic as in March 🙄

I have enough food to last us a two week isolation at a drop of hat, because, erm, well you know. Pandemic....

What do people do when they get the call from.track and trace? "Oh no! I am down to my last mung bean and only have laminate flooring to wipe my arse with!"

This shouldn't be a shocker really at this stage.
