Just that really, it's such a lot of money per month. When you think what else that money could be spent on. Can't wait til it's paid off. Anyone else feel like this?

I don’t have a mortgage anymore but do resent paying the council tax as it just keeps going up and we get less and less services.
I also resent paying the tv license fee and if it wasn’t for the fact my mum lives with us and is housebound so watches a lot of tv I would cancel it and throw the tv away.

I'm counting down the days to being mortgage free, 3.5 years!

NO, I was glad to have a mortgage after years of renting. Plus interest rates are so low. No cause of complaint at all.
I resent the Council tax though...that is very high.

You are funny OP. Our mortgage increased from 6% to `16% back in the day. That was frankly terrifying we ate a lot of baked beans, potatoes and mince. A bottle of wine on our first wedding anniversary. Rampant inflation on top of that.

Are you living within your means Op? You sound fed up. Having a mortgage is a privilege. That's how I see it. I worked hard for mines and I think buying a home is the best money I've ever spent. Its not dead end money. Eventually you'll be mortgage free, with more money to spend!

@Proudboomer ditto...Hardly ever watch tv... might as well cancel the licence, BBC needs to self fund.

it didn't take long for the usual competition to the bottom to start hmm

Oh yawn! OP Is in an enviable position. Yes, she has to pay interest on the loan she took to purchase her asset. It’s probably the cheapest interest you could have on a loan. There are people facing losing their houses once furlough ends and their jobs are cut. Seriously, don’t you dare make anyone feel guilty for not letting OP away with her diamond shoes are too tight whinge.

Please be thankful OP.. I lost our home in my divorce. As did DH (that was ten years ago!) we are late 50s now so no hope of ever owning again.. our only option is to pay £1200 a month (south-east) in rent (which is TWICE my mortgage previously) .. but ex h and ex W fucked both out credit by being an alcoholic and someone who refused to work despite school age children... so despite BOTH of us being the 'responsible ones' we are both left renting till we die....
seriously thinking of moving into a 'park home and buying a mobile ' that's how fucked off I feel !!

@celerystix

How much is it OP?

Our rent is £3,000 a month. Be lucky you have an asset.

That is crazy . Where on earth do you live?

Not at all. Love paying the mortgage and watching going it go down, another step closer to having our house fully paid and never needing to pay rent or mortgage for the rest of our lives. We’re nearly there!

only on MN can people be so bitter that having to pay a mortgage is compared to "diamond shoes too tight' Hmm

It's a bit rich when it comes from someone living in a rich country with all the social help, medical assistance, education you can need and using an expensive piece of technology to moan about their jealousy. You have no idea of the state of the real world out of your little rich bubble do you? I mean if you really want to make it a competition, at least make it a real one, countries devastated by war and famine would be a start.

I know what you mean, I want a bigger, more luxurious house and closer to town / work.

Sometimes I have to stop and feel surprised all over again, like ''do i really not have 300 thousand tucked away somewhere and I feel a bit shocked by that. Must have been quite comfortable in a former life.

Last time I even turned the tv on was to see Meghan marbles dress at the wedding. The tv was on for 5 minutes max and hasn’t been on since.
Mum has her own tv and I also pay for a full virgin subscription for her but I am not ashamed to admit both the tv and virgin will be cancelled within days of her passing. She is in her 80’s disabled and housebound so I will pay what I need to to keep her happy but once she is gone so is the tv licence and begin media.

YABU to be bored by it
I was just renewing our mortgage interest rate today and felt quite sad as was thinking for the monthly mortgage payment we pay now my DC's would not even be able to rent a 1 bedroom flat.
We were very lucky that we got our first mortgage when we were 21, straight out of uni. It was a 5% deposit and was just the done thing to do then. There is no way my DC's will be able to do that

Yes I understand. But better than renting. Council tax I don't mind too much. You are paying for a service. Income tax I'd rather not pay if it was optional.

Not with my mortgage but I feel this way with childcare. Like I know why I pay it, but it’s £1400 a month, which is over double my mortgage.

Can’t wait til it’s gone.
