Just that really, it's such a lot of money per month. When you think what else that money could be spent on. Can't wait til it's paid off. Anyone else feel like this?

Farrrrk.....£3k/month?!? Are you renting a penthouse on the moon?!?

User7312019 · 24/09/2020 19:46

When I was renting I felt like this because you’re just throwing it away every month. I think we appreciate it a bit more after having to rent for a few years before we could buy. A mortgage is a privilege.

Burnthurst187 · 24/09/2020 19:46

Look at the bigger picture, you're slowly chipping away at the overall figure. Better than renting a place or a car that you'll never own

TheTrollFairy · 24/09/2020 19:46

@celerystix your house must be massive (or in London) that’s so much money!

blagaaw99 · 24/09/2020 19:46

It's not about that lemony. It's about the cost going on and on and on

OP posts:
Megan2018 · 24/09/2020 19:48

It’s not our biggest bill by a long way so the mortgage is the least of our worries!
But paying all the bills is a constant worry.

blagaaw99 · 24/09/2020 19:48

Ok, if could take out bit about mortgage from my post and just make it about relentless bills and costs I would. Sorry I was insensitive all

Ha. Try spending double (or triple) that on rent for the same house that you’ll never own and someone else will benefit from you having paid. You should be thankful you can pay a mortgage on your own home that you get to keep. I’d love to be in your position.

NameChange84 · 24/09/2020 19:49

I voted YABU. Rental costs are much more and now as a homeowner myself I’m actually grateful the costs are less AND it’s my property it’s going to not someone else’s!

Florencex · 24/09/2020 19:49

No, how can you get “bored” or a mortgage payment.

blagaaw99 · 24/09/2020 19:50

I don't mind tax or council tax as feel there's no choice in that

OP posts:
CatRamsey · 24/09/2020 19:50

I don't even notice it tbh.

celerystix · 24/09/2020 19:51

@TheTrollFairy a (nice but not big) flat in central London 😩

apric0t · 24/09/2020 19:52

I love my monthly mortgage payment as my rent previously was £1,700+ and now my mortgage is under £650 wahooo!

MsEllany · 24/09/2020 19:52

Honestly my mortgage payment is less than £300 so I don't actually mind it. Before you get jealous, my house is worth less than £100k - it's not because I've nearly paid it off or anything!

The one bed flat I lived in 15-odd years ago is no rentable for twice my current mortgage on a 3 bed terrace. Madness.

unmarkedbythat · 24/09/2020 19:54

No I rent, I want a mortgage payment to be bored by!

When we first moved in together dh made me laugh, in the second month I said the council tax is due give me half please and he said "but we paid last month!" He really thought £44 would cover a whole year's council tax, the dick.

nevermorelenore · 24/09/2020 19:54

@CremeEggThief

YABU. Spare a thought for those of us who have to spend as much or more on rent, and most likely will never own our own properties.Hmm
Same! Especially when you get the lectures 'oh you really ought to buy a place? What will you do in retirement?' Well, I don't bloody know!

At least a mortgage is building equity and giving you security.

Doingitaloneandproud · 24/09/2020 19:55

I'd love to be in the position of owning my own home and paying off a mortgage bill each month so YABU

Hingeandbracket · 24/09/2020 19:56

OP are you similarly bored with eating, breathing and sleeping.

CoronaIsWatching · 24/09/2020 19:58

@celerystix

How much is it OP?

Our rent is £3,000 a month. Be lucky you have an asset.

Just move out of the SE
Twillow · 24/09/2020 19:59

I've certainly been bored of paying rent for something I don't much like, can't change to my taste much and will never make a profit from.

magicstar1 · 24/09/2020 19:59

My mortgage payment is 995 for a 3 bed detached in a nice area. My brother and girlfriend pay 1450 rent for a 1 bed about fifteen minutes fri here. I’d much rather the mortgage...even if I can’t wait for it to be gone lol.

blagaaw99 · 24/09/2020 20:00

Hingeandbracket....erm...I do get bored by cooking and washing up, does that count?! Grin

OP posts:
PattyPan · 24/09/2020 20:00

Yanbu, we are saving up to overpay and get rid of the mortgage asap (hopefully we’ll before the 25 years are up)! Could that be an option for you? We are on a fix but we can still overpay by 10% each year - we can’t manage that much but every little helps and it’s really satisfying when they send a letter confirming the end date has moved up by x months!

SantaClaritaDiet · 24/09/2020 20:01

It didn't take long for the usual competition to the bottom to start Hmm

It's not insensitive to be gutted to see how much money is wasted on interest and home maintenance. If you were wealthy, you'd pay it cash!

OP, I agree with you! Just look at the yearly statement and the big chunk that has been paid that year.
