Any ideas what this noise could have been??

Sitting working downstairs and I hear this really loud noise coming from (I think) the front door, loud enough to make me jump and think what’s that? Went on for about 5 seconds, sounded like someone either clattering about trying to get in the door or putting something firmly through the letter box and getting it jammed.

First thought was DH back from work early, but no. Checked our video doorbell and no motion was detected which is really strange as it was definitely coming from the front!

Thought it must have been a newspaper or something being shoved through the letter box (and somehow wasn’t picked up by the camera) so I go into the hallway to see what’s been posted and there’s nothing there!

Can’t see any sign of what could have caused the noise. Nothing seems to have broken/fallen anywhere.

Weird thing is when I look back on the last few minutes footage from the doorbell it says footage unavailable!

Answers on a postcard??

No ring doorbell here. But the actual doorbell rang about an hour ago. We have a long drive fully visable from the front windows. Son jumped up straight away but nobody was there. Hadn't seen anybody walk up or down the path and no where to hide. Really weird.

My letterbox rattles in the wind, sounds like someone knocking. Could it be that?

The ghost of an old postman trying to deliver a telegram.

I would be thinking that someone had stopped the Ring from recording in order to maybe use a fishing implement to root around and see if there was anything worth stealing via your letterbox.

We were watching TV one evening and the letterbox made a noise, so assumed it was a flyer. When I went to look there was nothing there. There was an unusual car on our drive at the time so assume some scum was trying to get the keys which were nowhere near the letterbox. Have since had instances of hearing someone trying to open the door.

However my neighbour came round one day and asked if he had given us the spare keys. I am thinking that their keys were pinched via the letterbox but the thief thought they were ours.

Oh my god that’s scary!! How would they deactivate the ring doorbell? Surely I would see someone and then it would go black or something?

So did they burgle your neighbour??

There’s been some local Facebook footage of a man trying to break peoples Rings with a screwdriver but surely I’d have footage of that?

And in broad daylight??

It hasn’t really been windy today!

@missnevermind Is your doorbell wired or wireless? Our wireless one turned out to be on the same frequency as a neighbour's car remote key fob. So, when they opened their car our doorbell went off!

BlueThursday · 24/09/2020 17:49

@missnevermind is your bell on a radio signal? My parents’ bell somehow ended up on the same frequency as a neighbour’s and whenever someone rang the neighbour’s bell my parents’ went off too

RainyDaze4 · 24/09/2020 18:26

I didn’t know this could happen!

A neighbour was burgled, but on the other side. Not related, different scum. I think if the key was taken, they forgot which house it belonged to, however neighbour has high security plus me watching everything that goes on most of the time and all our lights are on regardless of whether we are in or not so pretty off-putting to scum.

There is a lot of car theft around here, high end ones, ours are not anything special, neighbour with lost key is one that would be a target.

If you have one of those thief proof letterboxes that take the posties fingers off you sometimes find a spatula left in them from leaflet deliveries, they use them to push stuff through to avoid being bitten by the letterbox or pets on the other side, could it be someone with one of those that failed to get something in?

Or maybe postie realised they had the wrong house and pulled something back out?

Doesn't account for the lack of recording though, I don't fully understand Ring, it never worked for us very well.

One other thought, if your internet may have gone off (you should be able to find out) maybe the noise was someone working on the phone line? Less worrying so worth checking to put your mind at rest.

We had this too, I kept going to answer the door and saw people at the house opposite every time.
