for a few weeks ahead, I am offered either 7 or 10?

I've rung about 6 places today and they all say the same thing

It's rubbish, isn't it? Great for the proprietors, I am sure, but rubbish for everyone who isn't a telly presenter.

Is it a very popular posh area?

It does sound very frustrating, I can't say it has happened to me, maybe I go to the wrong sort of restaurants?!

TwigorTreat · 09/10/2007 18:48

I refuse to go to restaurants who talk about times you can stay at the table for .. it pisses me off .. how dare they

hifi · 09/10/2007 18:52

i agree myeye, why cant i ever get 8.30? who wants to eat at 10.00? we should all boycott and see what happens. we now just turn up at our fave restaurant and always get a table, we may have to wait at the bar for half hour but at least we get time we want.

Sheherazadethegoat · 09/10/2007 18:54

you need to book a v. nice restaurants that isn't bothered about packing the covers in. sadly you will pay through the nose. worth it imo.

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 09/10/2007 19:05

Ah- very Gordon Ramsey- get two sittings in to cover the bills.

Hasn't reached here yet everything here either Brewers fayre or celtic manor- we have no in between LOL) but sure it will soon enough

MyEye · 09/10/2007 19:40

These are good (spendy) central London places. It's a bit lowgrade, isn't it, this two-sittings nonsense. I'd rather be told 'sorry no availability' than 'yes, but at our convenience, rather than yours'

going to pont de la tour instead.

hifi, would love to know your favourite restaurant where the bar gambit pays off..

myeye, its fino in charlotte st. also done it at crazy bear round the corner a couple of times.

hertsnessex · 09/10/2007 21:01

MYEye,

Went to Pont de la tour a few weeks back........lush!

I have only been out of the city a year, and already forgot how nice it was to go to a posh restaurant!

have fun.

jofeb04 · 09/10/2007 21:04

Peachy, theres a very nice one in newport! But you have the table for the night (sorry hijack!).

I agree with op, really annoying, as when dh takes me to a restaurant, we want to be there to relax, not rush through a sociable meal!

nappyaddict · 10/10/2007 01:23

quite often when i try to book a restaurant they say oh yes you can book at such and such a time but there is a 2 hour limit to the table. i'm normally ok with this as it never takes more than 2 hours for a meal and then you can always go in the bar for drinks afterwards.

slim22 · 10/10/2007 04:03

If you fancy japanese NOBU also has no booking/wait in the bar policy.

goldenoldie · 10/10/2007 07:45

eat somewhere else.

And we have never had this problem at Gordon Ramsey's (Claridges)
