Workplace covid procedure

ilovemycatanddog · 23/09/2020 23:41

I know we have thread after thread about covid but I can't find anything else on the internet.

I work in hospitality, away from customers and behind a screen. I'm exempt from wearing a mask, my employer knows this yet they force me to wear a face shield. If I don't wear one I have no job.

Now they're starting to take our temperature before we enter the building, I can't be touched, not by anyone for reasons I don't want to be telling my whole place of work.

My anxiety is through the roof, I'm having panics attacks, I grind my teeth in my sleep so bad that my jaw hurts when I wake up. The idea of working like this has made me so depressed I'm having really awful thoughts.

I can't have my head covered, I just can't, I can't do it.

Are they using a contactless thermometer? That way they wont have to touch anyone.

Faceshields dont offer any protection, can you wear a sunflower lanyard instead so they know you are exempt?

ilovemycatanddog · 23/09/2020 23:46

@MotherPiglet I have a lanyard, I have lots of prove that I am exempt. I still have to wear a shield.

A lady in another department has cancer in her mouth and they're making her wear one too even though she had notes from the doctor,

Sorry your feeling like this. You could consider speaking with your GP for some advice with regards to how the situation is making you feel and see if they can give any recommendations or suggestions that you could put forward to your employer in regards to the face visor. If you are exempt then perhaps they would write you a letter? Or you could contact your union/ ACAS for advice. With the temperature reading, why don’t you take your own instead do someone else doing it for you.

FirstOfficerDouglas · 23/09/2020 23:50

Just to say I am so sorry that you are in such distress.

Sunflower lanyard, talk to employer - you don't have to explain why you have panic attacks - just that you have them, and the employer should make adjustments. Always easier said than done I know - but my heart goes out to you - this is hard for you.

WorraLiberty · 23/09/2020 23:51

Why do they need to touch you to take your temperature?

Also, are you in a union?

kittykat35 · 23/09/2020 23:55

Our temp is taken by an iPad type tablet that we walk up to...no touching involved.
Everyone must have their temp taken or you cannot enter the facility unfortunately.

Terrace58 · 23/09/2020 23:55

You say away from customers, does that mean you aren’t in view of customers? Or if you are in view of customers, could you be reassigned to a more private area?

WorraLiberty · 23/09/2020 23:59

Also I'm a bit confused because a few hours ago you said you've not been wearing one and you've been getting rude remarks and told off by customers.

ilovemycatanddog · 24/09/2020 00:07

@WorraLiberty my work colleague said they held her arm as they took her temperature.

I've been off on holiday so it hasn't happened to me yet.

@Terrace58 customers cannot see me. My role is more back of house. I'm never within 10ft of anyone yet they still force me to wear a shield.

I have a lanyard, my idva has written me a letter. I have spoken to my employer who spoke to there EHO who said I have to wear it if I like it or not

ilovemycatanddog · 24/09/2020 00:10

I'm not in a union. My employer does not recognise them even if I was

They're awaiting on infra-red thermometers so at the moment just using normal ones bought from a chemist ffs.

@WorraLiberty not wearing a mask, I wear a shield

I'm not understanding why your colleague, who has mouth cancer, cannot wear a shield.

Your employer can use contactless thermometers, although they're not very accurate.

You shouldn't need to be held by your arm.

ilovesooty · 24/09/2020 02:01

A contactless thermometer shouldn't involve touching you at all.

ilovemycatanddog · 24/09/2020 11:32

@1Morewineplease no idea? I've been off for a week. It's what they are messaging me
