Help me spend some money!

I didn't really know which section to put this in but here goes.
I work a full time, stressful job. I've work all the way through lockdown and missed out on holidays. I do know lots of people are in the same boat. But I need a treat, I need to spend some money on myself as I'm getting burnt out and the thought of a second lockdown with schools closing and just the juggling of life is getting me down.
So what should a buy myself? I have a few hundred pounds to spend not on the kids but on ME! and I have no idea.
I work in a uniform and have loads of comfy clothes, I don't really go out and already have going out clothes, shoes etc.
I don't wear makeup or really do my hair and I've still got a coupon for a massage and pani/pedi that I haven't used from my birthday.
Not overly keen on smellies or candles so I'm stumped. HELP

A nice piece of art that you’ll love? Spend it on something that will free up some time (cleaner, get ironing done)?

DarlingCoffee · 23/09/2020 19:07

I think I would buy food! Have a really lovely feast to share with someone.

Nsky · 23/09/2020 19:07

Nice bit of jewellery?

Oysterbabe · 23/09/2020 19:11

When I was in this position I bought a Nintendo Switch and Animal Crossing. Not for everyone but it has been great fun.
Also a very warm and luxurious winter coat.

MrsGrindah · 23/09/2020 19:16

Books, beautiful pen and stationery
An online course
A wonderful piece of furniture or ornament that you will look at and smile
Something for the garden if you have one
A tattoo!

Calic0 · 23/09/2020 19:19

I think I’d buy up half of Waterstones Smile

bridgetreilly · 23/09/2020 19:21

Hot tub?

Something for a hobby? I've spent a ton of money on fabric and yarn over lockdown. It's good because it feels like a treat, and it also gives me things to do when we can't go out.

Poppyolive90 · 23/09/2020 19:21

If it was me I’d buy luxury bubble bath and a nice candle and one of those electric diffuser things so the house always smells nice. A nice face mask to use in the bath and a nice body lotion for after. Maybe some new pjs to hop into afterwards

MrsGrindah · 23/09/2020 19:21

A beautiful rug
Plants/ trees
Silk pyjamas and dressing gown

ButtWormHole · 23/09/2020 19:22

What about the things to get started with a hobby? Especially leading into autumn and winter if you struggle in the darker months.

BadEyeBri · 23/09/2020 19:22

Really fancy bedding, new pillows, duvet, mattress topper and swanky PJs. I've worked all lock down too and it's been bonkers. I'd give my right arm for a cheeky duvet day

Bridecilla · 23/09/2020 19:26

New bedding
Hot tub
A Eufy (just spent my unused going out gin money on one and I love it)
A comfy chair
A weighted blanket
Pay someone to decorate your favourite room
New tablet

That's my list anyway Grin

PegasusReturns · 23/09/2020 19:27

Things I’ve bought which have brought me joy since lock down:

Magazine subscription
Handbag
Many many books.
Audible books
Heavy velvet throw
Gold mouse lamp
A painting
A cashmere scarf
Ugg slippers
Hundreds of bulbs for the garden
Blinds

Rose face oil
An academic year diary (ever the optimist!)
Bed linen
Sweaty Betty leggings x lots as they seem to be all I wear!

PervyMuskrat · 23/09/2020 19:27

Lego (the Diagonal Alley set is out and is amazing!), a kindle, books and agree with ten Animal Crossing suggestions above, it’s very calming. Wine subscription or artwork if you have more grown up tastes than me.

PegasusReturns · 23/09/2020 19:28

Oh and a roomba
Electric oil diffusers
And a piano!

I’ve got really bad about treating myself during lockdown, but am saving money in other areas! Ultimate treats:

-gorgeous perfume: go to Penhaligons!
-really luxurious cotton sheets, nice silk pillowcases
-a lovely face cream (you can get really good bargains at TK MAXX!)
-a plant or a bunch of flowers a week
-a great haircut
-really gorgeous cushions and lamp

Bikingbear · 23/09/2020 19:35

I'd be tempted to buy an instrument to learn or craft stuff if you are crafty.

Bo point buying clothes and stuff to go out we aren't exactly going anywhere. Hmm

Nacreous · 23/09/2020 19:38

Things I have that I love: a really wonderful mirror, lovely blankets and cushions, a really good coat, a kindle.

Wester · 23/09/2020 19:41

If I was you I would buy the most expensive piece of jewellery I could afford.

I have my eyes on a £700 pair of earrings 😍😍

BoomBoomsCousin · 23/09/2020 19:44

I might start a hobby or invest in one I already do. A few hundred pounds should be enough to get some online instruction and a fair few supplies in many craft/maker type activities. Or possibly a musical instrument. I already bake a lot and might be tempted to get some instruction and/or accessories to do with that.

I’d also be tempted by a second screen for my computer, a kindle and a bunch of ebooks, or other electronic accessories.

A new cocktail shaker and some fancy alcohol would be another winning combination for me.

thelikelylass · 23/09/2020 19:47

OP I sorted out my cds (I know..) into order and a nice cupboard. I love music so I then invested in a brilliant Dab radio/CD/bluetooth system and I subscribed to Spotify. This got me through lockdown.
Gardening was another thing, I bought some gorgeous furniture and pots/plants and it is all done now ready for next spring. Long term enjoyment...

poppythetroll · 23/09/2020 19:48

poppyolive I'm sorry but have you hacked my life... this is literally what I ask for every birthday/Christmas; if you've had thrown in some fresh sheets and a really nice bottle of wine I would have reported you for stalking Grin!!!!

OP apart from above.... how about a tablet/kindle fire/laptop etc.... I have a kindle fire and I love that it's just mine... all our other electronic devices get shared amongst family members (husband and kids!!) so it's first come first served.... my kindle fire is all mine!! I know it seems "first world problems" but I know where everything is on it and I'm not going to find some crappy apps someone has downloaded or countless tiktok videos etc Grin!!!!

Ohjustboreoff · 23/09/2020 19:49

Great suggestions. Unfortunately I can't / won't buy anything for the house. Young kids who are basically feral and have no regards for a beautiful rug or Loaf sofa. Would love a piece of art but DH would live in a sterile box if he could and I have to fight for everything I put on the walls.
Not into smellies, I've had lovely Jo Malone candles and bath oils and have just given them to my sister as they've collected dust.
I'm liking the idea of jewellery! I've always worn the same earrings/rings and necklace.
Any suggestions on classic jewellery in either white gold or platinum?

A painting, ceramics or a small piece of craftsman made furniture.

An investment handbag.

Some really lovely bedlinen or towels.

A super-comfy reclining armchair and books to read in it.

Redo a bit of garden, maybe have a pond or an area with a nice seat and some lovely plants.

Post-Covid, a city break to somewhere nice in Europe, Florence or Seville or somewhere. Or even in the UK, so many of our cities have great galleries, museums and nice shops.

But what I'd actually do is take myself and DP to Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons for a night or two, or put it towards getting my knackered knee sorted out.

BanginChoons · 23/09/2020 19:52

Ugg boots.
A haircut.
Books.
Some really luxurious chocolates.
A kitten?
